why it happened!

i opened my eyes rubbing them, before turning over feeling an empty bed. "Will?" i groaned.

footsteps echoed through the bathroom and into our bedroom, i turned over as he hovered over, both arms on either side of me, his glasses not falling off his face. "yes?" he asked.

"hey," i smiled, "i didn't know if you'd left or not, yet."

"Nope," he said sitting down on the bed, "i was just about to leave, did you see where i put my contacts?"

i sat up, pulling my hair into a high pony. "um, bathroom counter?" i said, and he shook his head.

"checked," he replied.

"behind where i put my brush?" i added. he stood up and walked into the bathroom, i looked over at the clock before stretching and getting out of bed.

"found them," he said walking back into the bedroom, "thank you." i nodded before he walked around and kissed my cheek.

"ill see you soon," he said. i nodded before he walked out, i walked into the bathroom and started to get ready for the day.

"Phoenix, hurry up we're gonna be late," zara yelled into the house. i pulled my hair into a bun before turning the light off and walking out of the bedroom. i walked downstairs and out of the house after grabbing my phone and keys. i locked the door and got into the passenger's side of Zara's car. "took your sweet time," she smiled.

i rolled my eyes as she started driving. when we got there, she parked then we both got out of her car and walked in. "you should really buy a car," she said as we walked into the change rooms.

"im getting there, shits expensive" i sighed quickly getting changed as my pager went off, just before Zara's did.

i pulled it out, "trauma. are you on peds?" she nodded then i grabbed my stethoscope, putting it in my pocket before putting the pager in my pocket and rushing out of the change rooms. i found the staircase and walked down them before making my way through the crowd of people and into the emergency room.

grabbed a trauma gown putting it on, before putting on gloves. "Faye Foster," the paramedic said getting out of the ambulance, "9 years old, passed out at school and hasn't woken up since."

"trauma room 1," William said, pushing the gurney. Zara and i helped push it in, before helping her onto the trauma room bed. the paramedics walked out with the gurney and left us here to work.

"zara i need you to take some blood and get pre-op labs," William said before looking at me, "you need to find parents, and get permission for an ex-lap then get an OR asap, and page me."

i nodded and moved around her body looking in pockets trying to find a phone or some sort of ID. i found a library card and walked out, over to the computers. "Hi, my d-daughter was brought in, Faye Foster,"

i stood up and walked over to him. "hi sorry, im one of Fayes doctors," i said guiding him over to the Emergency Room waiting room.

"How is she? what happened?" he fired off questions.

"all i know is that she's stable for now," i replied, "i do need your consent for surgery, though."

"w-what i thought you said she's okay," he panicked.

"stable. she's stable for now. the surgery is for us to go in and see why she fainted," i explained, "it'll be a quick and easy surgery, nothing should go wrong."

he nodded, "okay, yeah get me the papers." i stood up and walked over to the desk.

"can i get consent forms in with Faye Foster's chart?" i asked

they nodded then put the forms in and i grabbed it from them and passed it down to her father, who started to fill it in. "Just hand it back to the nurse's station, once filled in," i said.

he nodded then i walked around and sat down in one one of the chairs picking up the phone booking an OR. i got the consent form back, before standing up and walking back into the trauma room seeing William in there.

"OR's booked, forms signed," i said, "dads in the waiting room."

"how's your morning been?" he asked.

"i haven't had my coffee yet, so you guess," i smiled

he turned around and looked at me, "let's get coffee then." i smiled then he walked out and i followed after him. we walked down to the coffee cart just outside the hospital before walking back in and running into Zara.

"the blood tests," she said. Will looked over the sheet in front of him before looking at both of us.

"she's good, get her down to the OR, ill meet you down there," he said before he started to walk away, "wait which one are we in?"

"three," i replied. he nodded then walked away and Zara and i walked back down into the emergency room taking Faye downstairs. Zara and I put our scrub caps on before pushing her bed into the OR.

"scalpel," Will demanded, before being passed the scalpel cutting into her abdomen. i watched his movements carefully, as i helped him. during the surgery, the monitors started going off. we moved quickly trying to find the bleeders.

"Can you see anything?" he asked

"there's nothing in here, its clean," i replied, "no blood." i looked up at him as he did the same, before looking over at the anesthesiologist.

"check her pupils," he said. i looked over at the anesthesiologist, as he grabbed his little torch going over her eyes. "fixed and dilated," he said. William looked over at me before putting the equipment down. "you two close and take her upstairs," he said, walking away.

i nodded before zara moved around to the other side. i looked up at her before she started to close up her body, me helping her. "can you take her up?" she asked.

i nodded before she walked out and i pulled my mask, gloves and gown off pushing the bed out. i pushed it back upstairs with the nurse's help. i got her settled in her room as William walked back with her dad. he walked in and collapsed down next to her as i walked out.

"so how long do we have to wait for?" i asked, "6 hours?"

William nodded, "6 hours. check back every hour, and find me with anything important." i nodded before he looked back over at the nurses' station. "i need neuro up here for a consult on, Faye Foster," he said before looking at me, "when you're done, can you check on my patients up in peds?"

i nodded before he walked off handing the chart to me. i looked through it before turning around and looking into the room. i walked off and up to the peds floor, starting to check on his patients.

i sat down on one of the chairs behind the nurse's station before my pager went off. i looked at it before standing up, and making my way over to the room. as i got there i saw Zara and William standing outside. "is it time?" i asked

he nodded, "yeah." i looked down at the floor before looking over at William who was looking over at zara.

"you okay to do it?" he asked. she nodded before starting to walk towards the room, i leaned back on the nurse's station as she walked in leaving the door opened

"im so sorry, Mr Foster," zara said, "but it's time, i have to take her off life support her."

"no- no please," he cried
