CHAPTER ONE

Well that was embarrassing. I think to myself as I nervously tap the steering wheel with my thumb. I basically had to beg for this case, after last time.

"Uuugghh" I groan outloud to no one but myself. Pushing my foot down on the accelerator anxiously, wanting to arrive as soon as possible.

I arrive at the scene, cars and flashing lights are everywhere already. I walk straight through, ignoring everyone on my way, eyes set on the wrecked car. I peer through the broken window, at the deceased man. I barely have a minute to gather my thoughts when I hear someone stop behind me.

"Want to know what I've got so far?" I know that voice. I know it far too well. I subtly roll my eyes before straightening up and turning around to face the voice.

"Lieutenant said this is my case." I snap sternly, trying to hide the annoyance from my voice.

"Yeah, Y/N, it is your case, but try not to take too much time. Its an easy one." Why, why is he here! "That's our bad guy" he continues, pointing through the broken window I had been peering through. "He's a low level drug dealer. I found these in his pocket" he says in his arrogant tone, waving six small plastic bags stuffed with cocaine, in front of my face. ".. and I found this is Seoyun's purse.." hes scoffs, holding up a seventh identical bag in his other hand. ".. so obviously drug related. She probably owed him a bunch of cash or something. She's not exactly selling out at stadiums these days."

"How do you know he's low level?" I asked, he hates when I question his theories.

He sighed as if explaining this was an inconvenience. "Look at his car."

"Did you look at his watch? That thing isn't cheap.."

"It's probably fake. Look, there's gonna be a lot of attention on this one Y/N. I wouldn't pick at it too hard. Not after last time."

I hate him. "I asked for this case because of last time, Namjoon. So anyway, any witnesses?"

He idly points me towards the tallest building on the street. Adjacent to an alleyway was the huge entrance, lined with red velvet rope. Above the door was gold lettering, reading LUX. As I got closer, I noticed just how beautiful the entrance to this club really was. The stone wall had the most intriguing pattern engraved following through to the heavy wooden doors. In front of the doors layed Seoyun's lifeless body, blood stains covering her expensive fur coat and revealing silk dress.

I enter Lux astonished at it's beauty. The entrance lead to a platform that overlooked the entire club down below. The staircase laced with gold, leaf patterned carpet supported by a railing with dark wooden posts and intricately detailed iron balusters, sparkling under the clubs lighting.

The club had been emptied, the only person left was a sharply dressed man, beautifully playing a grand piano. This must be my witness. I take out my notebook and walk over to him. He continues to play, without averting his gaze from the piano keys "Kim Seokjin".

"Kim Seokjin" I mumble as I write down his name.

"You know, you look familiar. Have we met before?" He questions, still playing the piano but now staring up at me. My goodness, he is stunning.

"I'm asking the questions. Talk to me about your relationship with the victim"

"Well, she used to work here a few years back. I would occasionally accompany her while she sang. Then she became a big star and someone decided to end her life" he answered, as he stopped playing to take a rather long sip from his iced drink, whiskey, judging from the colour and glass he was using.

"Do you know the shooter?"

"No, but we did have an interesting little chat just before he kicked off. I asked him why he did it."

Here we go. Another civilian attempting to solve crimes. "Uh huh, like to play cop do you?"

He flashed a huge grin, revealing his perfect teeth. "I prefer MapleStory, Detective. What about you?"

Wow, that smile.. Concentrate Y/N! "So you had a conversation with a dead guy?"

"Oh, no, he wasn't quite dead. His soul hadn't crossed the threshold."

I nod my head slowly to humour him. "I see.. did he tell you why he did it?"

"Why, money, of course. You humans, you love your money, don't you?" He says, turning his smile into a playful pout.

Why do I always get the weird ones. "Yes. Yes, we do and uh, what planet are you from?"

He let's out a loud laugh this time but ignores my question completely "yes, he also said 'I just pulled the trigger'. Now don't you think that's interesting?"

"Seoyun was shot to death by a drug dealer and it looks like Seoyun herself kept the guy pretty busy. You know, it's sad, it's ugly, but it's not rocket science. Something probably went south between them. She gets riddled with bullets and a nice little act of God takes him out." I don't need another person telling me how to do my job, first Namjoon, now this..

"You know, it doesn't quite work like that, Detective. It's quite a neatly wrapped little present for you, don't you think?"

As he talks I look him over, I can tell he's confident. Very good looking indeed, he probably has women falling all over him. He was wearing a black, freshly pressed suit, with a white button down shirt, the top button undone, slightly revealing a small glimpse of his seemingly smooth, muscular chest.

"Why don't you tell me something?" I start on him, folding my arms. "How does she end up dying in a hailstorm of bullets and you get away without a scratch? I think that's interesting, don't you?"

"The benefits of immortality" he replies simply, as if the answer was obvious.

".. 'immortality.' Mm, of course, uh, how do you spell that, with one or two M's? I always forget." I sarcastically unfold my arms and open up my notebook.

"What will your corrupt little organisation do about this?" His smile vanishes as he waits for me to answer.

What the fuck. He is really getting on my nerves now. "Excuse me?"

"Will you find the person responsible?" He asked accusingly, continuing "Will they be punished? Will this be a priority for you? Because it is for me."

This guy.. "You've got some balls, pal"

"Oh, thank you very much" he shrugs off, leaning back slightly on his piano stool to gesture down his body "but they're really quite average." His smile appearing again "now are you sure that we haven't met?"

"We're done here." I put my notebook back in my pocket and start up the stairs.

"Uh, Detective, wait!" He calls "I didn't get to tell you my joke! What do trees say?"

"I'm leaving, Seokjin."

"Well, that would have been quite funny too.. 'leafing'" he chuckles to himself.

I continue up the staircase, not really paying attention to what he's saying.

"Detective.." he whines "You're meant to say 'I don't know, what do trees say?' then I reply 'I'm not sure either, I'm stumped'" I hear him burst into laughter at his own joke.

I smirk, hoping he doesn't see, telling myself that it's his odd, window wiper laugh that's amusing me. Not his horrible dad joke.
