The sun was rising in the horizon.

You allways apreciated this moment of the day, when the dark turned into light, signaling the start of a new day. It wasn't hard for you to enjoy this little moment; all you had to do was wake yourself early and climb all the way to the rooftop of your parents house. It was quite a humble house, with orange bricks for the walls, red squares arround the windows and plants all over the building.

From the roftop you could see your beautiful garden, with some vegetables gadered on the right side.

Your house was on the top of a hill, surrended by woods but without any tree between you and the horizon right in front of you. When all that landscape turned into yellow and you started to feel the warmth of sunlight in your face that's when you truly feel happy.

Life was led without any worry or hurry. During the day, you would help your parents at the farm, and during the night you would read a book at the fireplace.

Your life was truly peacefull.

"Mom!" you shouted as you ran towards your house that was set in flames. Your mother was trying her best to put out the fire, to no avail. You reached out for a bucket to help her, but the house was far too gone. Since you lived far from the next village, there weren't anywhere to ask for help that quickly. Eventually, your mother gave up on the house and grabbed your hand so you could run away, since the flames were catching up the the nearnest tress.

You looked back one last time before running, to the place that it's been your home all your life.

All those moments you could never live again.

All gone.

"Where is dad?" you asked, feeling the tears going down your face.

"I... don't know" your mother replied, looking into the distance while still pulling you by the hand.

"Was he in the house...? We need to help him! We need to go back!" I pulled my hand towards me and stopped walking.

"Your father is gone!" shouted your mother, finally turning to face you.

"What..." you let out, not believing what you were hearing. "he's gone..? to where..?"

Your mother started crying and you watched as her knees reached the ground. You stayed there without saying any other word.

You looked back and watched as the smoke reached the sky from a distance.

He's gone?

*****

You woke up feeling like your body was hurting all over the place. Having spent the night in the wild wasn't exactly the most confortable you've been. And you've been doing that for quite a while.

After the incident, you and your mother reached the nearest village wich to your horror had been also burned to the ground. You saw things that would forever haunt your mind.

Seeing there was no hope left at that place, your mother took you away further down into the woods.

You weren't sure if she knew where she was headed or if she had a plan at all.

But you could not ask either. You did not want to.

In fact, you did not want to speak at all.

*****

Your mother had asked for you to grab some water from the river and as you looked at your reflexion in the water, you realized how lifeless you had become. Food was hard to get by, since your father was the hunter in the family and your mother refused to go back to the farm to check if something was spared from the flames.
