"Stop fidgeting," snapped Veronica.
"Sorry, gosh," I mutter, trying not to move.
Veronica held a huge pair of scissors and was trimming my hair.
"Remind me again why you're doing this," said Harry, shaking his head. He was leaning against the tree bark.
"Split ends, Harry. Ever heard of them?" said Katie. She was getting her hair trimmed next.
"No," said Harry, looking blank.
"You don't know what split ends are?" laughed Nicole. Harry swatted her shoulder, which resulted in a hitting frenzy. It was normal with those two. Harry and Nicole keep fighting. I couldn't help smiling as Harry messed up Nicole's hair.
"They fight like my brother and I used to," said Katie. Her smile suddenly dimmed. Her shoulders sagged and she looked down.
Sidra put an around Katie. I would have done that but Veronica would've chopped my head off. I would like to keep my head on for a few more years, so I sat still while Veronica snipped away.
"Done," she said brightly.
"Thanks," I said, getting up. I tied my hair into a ponytail with a black scrunchie.
Katie sat down in front of Veronica.
"We need food," announced Sadie, coming back from the shelves and sitting down next to Nicole.
"We're going on a trip, then." Said Harry, jumping up.
"What, do you guys just walk in the market place, take stuff, and leave?" asked Katie.
"Well, yes, but no," said Veronica, waving the scissors around.
"Watch it," said Sam as it came dangerously close to him. Veronica playfully poked it in his direction. He backed away, laughing.
"What she means is," said Sidra, shooting both of them a look, "is that we have friends there."
"Friends is a strong word," said Sam.
"More like accomplices," said Nicole, swatting at Harry's arm as he poked her shoulder.
"More rebels?" I asked.
"Not exactly. They help us in return for random items they call valuable," said Sadie, rolling her eyes.
"They took my shoes last time," said Harry, scowling.
"He really liked those shoes," explained Nicole.
"I loved them," he said.
"It's either those sneakers or food," said Melissa. She was lying on the platform, staring at the thick canopy above us.
"So who wants to go?" asked Sam.
"I'll pass," said Veronica, still snipping away at Katie's hair.
"Me too," said Katie.
"I'll go," offered Harry.
"Julie and I'll go with him," said Nicole, getting up and linking arms with me.
"We will?" I asked, uncertain.
"Don't worry, You'll be fine. These two know what they're doing," said Sidra.
"Most of the time," muttered Sadie.
The three of us set off. We wore simple black tights and t-shirts with a jacket thrown on top. We didn't want any unwanted attention.
"Do you know what we need?" I asked.
"The usual." Said, Harry.
"And what's that?" I said, putting on my hood.
