Present time
I know every story has to start with who the main person is so here's my story. Well, my name is Jordan and I'm in the Marine Corps as a sniper. I am a bloody good sniper. There is a battle between the Marine Corps and US Navy who also want me as I'm that good for their Navy Seal program. But I have never been that model citizen. Trouble anyways seemed to find me after I lost my family.

Here I am at the base in Virginia refusing to go to Thanksgiving with my fellow marine, Danny. We have been friends for five years since I joined. He has helped me deal with my problems and had taken me under his wing. I look over at him refusing to budge. I am taller than him by five inches at 6'5. Both of us are built solid with muscle at the moment due to training and deployment. We just got back from a tour of Iran. I can't believe he's trying to make me go. I don't like the holidays and haven't for years. Holidays are for families and I don't have one.

"Come on Jordan you can't stay here on your own for the holidays".

"I am fine here on my own," I say crossing my arms "I have every year".

"It's not a life to have. Just come for one day. My mom insists you are coming. She has plenty of food as she expects you to be there this time".

" I don't want to go".

"Come on".

" I don't like the holidays".

"Stop being a spoilsport and come on. I know you don't like the holidays".

Somehow I am at his parent's house standing in the family room like a dork cos I feel out of place. Danny is talking to his dad about what's been going on but I'm not paying any attention.

"Girls. They are here" shouts his mom from outside the room.

The next thing is the door opens and in walks, his mom followed by two girls, one I presume is his sister.

" Hey sis" he replies.

"Hi, Danny. Looking good there Dan " she replied to him. "Wow bro, when I couldn't think you could fill out any more. You do. You look so good".

" Hi, Melissa".

"Hi, Danny" The other girl squeaked.

Danny gives them each a hug.

"Hey bro you do look good".

" Thanks, Clarissa. We have been training again ready for the next deployment".

She whacks the girl called Melissa in the arm as she is staring at her brother.

"Why don't you boys go and get change out your military uniform".

There is no expression on my face as everyone is talking I don't feel right being here. I am happy just to be back at base on my own. I'm not looking at anyone just at the glass of water in my hand.  I feel out of place here. Danny looks at me. I soon look up from my glass and my eyes with his sisters friends eyes.

"Oh sorry everyone I forgot to introduce my friend. This is Jordan. He was going to stay on the base for Thanksgiving on his own".

" I'm glad my boy dragged you to ours. That is no way to spend the holiday on your own" said their dad.

"You are always welcome here, Jordan" replied their mom "Don't you have family".

" No Mam" I replied quietly but still with an authority "Thank you for the offer mam". Honestly, I don't want to be here.

I catch her still staring at me. I look over at Danny and nods. Both of us disappear to get changed into civilian clothes. As we leave the room I can feel someone staring at me. Once upstairs, Danny looks at me.
