___Desa roughly wiped at her stinging eyes. They were blown as it all came back to her muffled. Like a memory recorded on something that was long forgot about, buried deep in a closet full of broken trinkets.
Was Ambrose really Aria? Her Aria?
But they had changed so much. They looked taller and more lanky. Their hair was different, not it's old sandy brown color. And of course the big change of their name. They even sounded different.
Was their eye because of.. of what happened? What they did... How it ended.
How hadn't she noticed? She was mad at herself for not seeing that they were in fact her first everything. They had spent whole days laying around together, just feeling each other's energies. How couldn't she tell it was them?
Her eyes cut ruggedly across the sea of people lit with party lights and the moon. Ambrose had seemingly disappeared like they were never here to begin with.
Like when she woke up in the hospital...
She had always thought she dreamt it and when she brought it up no one ever told her the truth, so she just stopped asking. Pushed it down deep, hoping the lack of attention would make it disappear.
But yet...
Here it was. The necklace. Something she couldn't have made up and that no one else would know about.
A little silver angel, some would confuse it for a fairy but they both knew. Desa knew. Aria-... Ambrose knew.
She squeezed the little object into her palm tightly, using her other hand to pick up the card that had fallen out of the box.
The words on the card only throwing her deeper into the darkness. 'Nothing I did was ever good enough, I'm sorry. I love you and I always will. No one will ever love you more then me. Remember that they took you away from me. Honey will never love you like I do."
What the fuck? Why hadn't they said anything? Was what they said true? No, they're just trying to manipulate her. They knew this whole time and left her feeling things for them that she couldn't explain. And how dare they even mention Honey. Her brain was moving too fast to process anything.
But as she looked down at the little angel, it's indents in her palm, her feelings muted and her brain faded.
All the noise around her had disappeared, just like they had. She didn't even notice that her father had moved her closer to the cake. She didn't notice when they all sung happy birthday. She didn't notice when they blew the candles without her or when they cut the cake.
When she finally came too Niko was waving his hand in her face. Her eyes snapped to his and he flinched, yanking his hand back.
"A-Are you okay?" He asked, biting the inside of his cheek, she hadn't moved in over 15 minutes.
"I'm fine." No, she wasn't. She cleared her throat, it was dry and cracked, like she'd been starved of any sustenance for weeks. Her paled face going blank as she realized that the cake was already cut. "Did you get some cake?"
"Um, no.. n-not yet." He frowned, it took everything in him not to sling himself in her arms. She obviously wasn't okay. What happened? Was this how people acted when they're hungover or something?
"Come on, I'll get you some." She moved to grab two plates, almost yanking the knife from someone. She got Honeys first, she hadn't forgot. No instead she wanted to check on him right away, what Ambrose wrote had made her somewhat anxious.
