1: I'll Have A Blue Christmas
The boys sat around the small Christmas tree, smiling and laughing with each other. In middle of touring it was a much needed break from their hectic schedule. It wasn't quite Christmas yet. It was Christmas Eve.
The Irish boy looked around the room and frowned as he realized one was missing. "Where's Liam?" He asked his friends.
The curly haired boy looked up from his phone and shrugged. A feathery haired boy slung his arm around him. The curly haired boy groaned, pushing the other off of him. "You made me lose, Louis!" He whined.
"He's in his room," Louis told the Irish lad.
"Why?"
"He's still upset," Louis said with a frown. "I tried to get him to come down, but he won't listen to me."
"Give him some space, Ni," the dark haired boy said from across the room.
"But Zayn, he hasn't come out since she called! And it's been almost a week!" Niall complains.
"Then go check on him," Harry, the curly haired boy, suggested.
Niall groaned and stood to his feet. "Anybody have his room key?"
"By the door!" Louis said as he wrestled with Harry for the phone. "Come on, Haz! Lemme play!"
Niall shook his head at his friends and walked towards the door. He grabbed the card with the name Liam written on it and proceeded out the door of Louis and Harry's shared hotel room.
Niall walked down the hall and stopped at a door. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door. When there was no response, he opened the door with the key.
His heart broke as he heard soft sobs coming from the distance. He sighed and shoved the card in his pocket, kicking the door closed with his foot. He walked through the suite and to the bedroom. He frown when he saw his best friend sitting on the floor.
Niall had never seen him this way. Liam was always the one to keep things together, not be the one to fall apart.
Niall sighed and stepped into the room. "Liam, come on. You can't just cry all day. I know you're upset, but please stop. I hate seeing you like this, mate."
The sandy haired boy looked up at his friend with bloodshot eyes. His normal, warm brown eyes were drained and lifeless. His hair was messed up and he looked like he hadn't had a proper shave him at least a week.
Niall frowned at his best friend, crouching down next to him on the floor. "Liam, please."
Liam shook his head. He refused to move. He refused to do anything. He couldn't even bring himself to eat anything, something the Irish boy couldn't fully understand.
"Niall, just leave me," Liam said, with a shaky voice.
Niall frowned. "I'm not going to leave you like this."
Liam hugged his knees tighter, rocking back and forth as his tears started again. "Why not? Everybody else does," he said quietly, almost bitterly.
"I'm not leaving you, Liam," Niall said honestly. He didn't plan on leaving his best friend. It wouldn't even cross the Irishman's mind to do such a thing. He loved Liam as a friend and as a brother. He couldn't do that to him.
"Li, please?" Niall begged.
Liam whimpered and shook his head.
Niall moved closer to the broken boy and hugged him tightly. Liam responded by wrapping his arms around him and sobbing into his best friends arms.
Niall frowned deeply. He hated seeing him like this. It made Niall want to break down. But on that Christmas Eve, Niall had to be the strong one of the two. Two crying boys wouldn't be doing anybody any favors.
Liam clenched onto Niall as if he was Liam's only source of life. Niall's shirt was just about soaked when Liam pulled away with puffy eyes. He leaned back into Niall's chest, listening to his steady heartbeat. "Why did she leave me, Niall?" Liam's voice cracked quietly.
Niall frowned at the rawness of his tone. "I don't know, Liam. I don't know why anybody would want to leave you or hurt you like that."
"You won't leave me, right Niall? Niall, please don't go," Liam begged, sobbing into Niall's shirt.
Niall flattened his hair in a soothing motion. "I would never leave you, Liam. I promise."
"I know I'm sometimes annoying, but just please, don't go. I need you, Niall. You and the boys are all I have left," Liam said weakly.
Niall tightened his hold on his friend. Something about his words touched the younger boy. A way that some would say was wrong. "I won't ever leave. I promise I'll be here until the end." He kissed the top of Liam's head gently, ensuring that his words were true. He would never leave him, never.
