Chapter 1

Everyone laughed as they ate their delicious meal made by Halime. They were all enjoying their food when suddenly they heard a sound that they all knew too well. It was the sound of drums banging loudly indicating that there was a visitor coming to their tribe. This could mean that there were intruders and they were in danger, or it could be mean they were simply getting guests. "Hayirdir inshallah" exclaimed Hayme Ana. Before anyone could get up and see what was happening, Abdurrahman alp opened the tent door and told Ertugul Bey that two hatuns on white horses were making their way to the tent. Ertugul nodded and told Abdurrahman to ask them what their business was coming at this hour at night. A few minutes later Abdurrahman alp asked for permission to enter the tent and told Ertugul Bey " Bey, the hatuns would like to speak to you urgently." Ertugul Bey replied " Let them come in". Everyone was still gathered at the table, halfway through their meals. The tent door opened and two women came in. " Salam aleykum" the younger woman said. "Aleykum Salam, Kim se siniz (who are you)?" " Ben Sungertekin Bey kiz Fatma Hatun" the woman replied. " and I am her mother, Summaiyah Hatun" the other woman added. Hayme Ana gasped loudly. She ran up to Fatma Hatun and tried to give her a hug, however before she could do that Fatma stopped and her and kissed her hand. Hayme Ana put her hands around Fatma's face and said " My beautiful granddaughter, my only granddaughter". Fatma smiled and Summaiyah Hatun kissed Hayme Ana's hand. Everyone took turns graciously greeting Fatma Hatun and Summaiyah Hatun. " Come sit down and eat with us" Halime sultan said. " Thank you hatun" Fatma said. Halime laughed and said " oh of-course you don't know me, I am wife of Ertugul bey, Halime sultan, you can call me Halime yenge." Just as Fatma sat down next to Halime, Selcan Hatun walked into the room. As soon as she saw Fatma and Summaiyah she was shocked. She recognized them and greeted them both. As they all settled down and continued eating, Ertugul asked the question that was on everyone's minds. " Where is my Sungertekin abbey?". Summaiyah hatun dropped her fork and looked at Ertugul Bey before saying " Sungertekin bey is gone from this world, bey, he died a few days ago, we came to seek refuge in Kayi obasi". Hayme Ana burst into tears and Selcan Hatun took her to the other room and tried to comfort her. " I'm sorry yenge" Ertugul said. The entire family ate the rest of their food in silence and then they finally got up and went to their own rooms. Once everyone had gone and only Halime sultan, Osman, Fatma, and Summaiyah Hatun were left in the room, Halime showed Fatma and Summaiyah to their tent. " Thank you Halime Hatun" Summaiyah Hatun said. Fatma Hatun smiled at her aunt before saying " iyi geceler yenge". "iyi geceler kizim". Halime looked behind her and found that Osman was still standing there. " You don't want to go to sleep kara Osman?" she teased. Osman chuckled and started running away from his mother. Halime chased him through the camp and found him inside the main tent, she froze as she saw Ertugul Bey was discussing important matters with Artuk Bey. She felt embarrassed that her husband would think she was acting like a child. Halime led Osman into his room in the tent and put him to sleep. Savci was reading a book and Gunduz was already asleep. Once Osman had fallen asleep, Halime went to sit next to Savci. " My beloved son, my savci, go to sleep oglum." Savci tried to convince his mother to let him stay up a bit longer to finish reading his book, however Halime insisted. She told him " If you don't get enough sleep then you won't be an intelligent doctor when you grow up, haydi, go to sleep". Savci sighed and decided to obey his mother. Halime kissed his forehead and left the tent of her three sons. She saw that the main tent was empty. 'Ertugul must have gone to our tent', she thought. Halime pulled back the curtain that led to her and Ertugul's tent. When she walked in she saw Ertugul praying ishaa prayer. He was in sujood and focused on his prayer. Halime crept behind the prayer mat and went to sit on her bed. She patiently waited for Ertugul to finish his prayer. When Ertugul got up and folded his prayer mat he turned around to see Halime sitting and smiling at him. " When did you come here my Halime?" he asked. Halime chuckled before saying " mashallah you were so focused in your prayer you didn't see me come inside the tent". Ertugul smiled and sat down next to his wife. " I saw you chasing Osman earlier hatun". Halime looked away, her cheeks flushed pink. " I hope I didn't embarrass you in front of Artuk Bey, my bey". Ertugul leaned forward and kissed Halime on the forehead before saying " no, of course not, my gazelle-eyes, I just couldn't help but laugh at you and Osman". Halime looked down and started laughing. Halime put her hand in Ertugul's and said " Bey, are you not surprised by the sudden visit made by Summaiyah Hatun and Fatma to our camp?'". " Yes, I am surprised however they are our kin, they are our family, we must treat them as a our guests and give them the best care. I have finally met the daughter and wife of my brother Sungertekin". Halime smiled. " Go to sleep now Halime sultan, it is getting very late". ' Alright my bey" Halime responded.
