Jesus Christ, I hated writing this. Insert crying emoji. But this was requested by Litten_Kitten  and I appreciate the request. Also, you probably shouldn't do this if you find someone cutting.

Naruto had always despised the sight of blood, hated it with every part of his being. He hated the dark red color, the metallic stench, the way it drips. Absolutely everything.

So when he slid that sharp blade across his forearm for the first time, he didn't quite understand it. He just knew it felt good enough for him to do it again. And again. It made him forget about every thought that plagued his mind. Insecurities. Worries. Sasuke.

It worked. At least, it did for a while.

He started worrying about what people would do if they found out. Would he be even more of a freak than he already was? So, he'd go and use the blade again. And it worked. For a little while.

God, Naruto hated himself because of this.

What's worse is he knew the exact reason it started. Jealousy. He sees other girls, once in a while, even guys, with Sasuke and gets jealous. Even though he didn't have the right to be. Why was he allowed to be jealous when he and Sasuke weren't even dating.

Well, maybe he wasn't jealous, maybe it was more that he thought he wasn't good enough. Self-consciousness. God, Naruto wished he could just make it all stop. He didn't care about being Hokage anymore. He didn't care about his friends like he used to. He didn't want to be in love with Sasuke Uchiha. The moody, asshat, Sasuke Uchiha.

--

Naruto walked with his hands behind his head, trying to ignore the disgusted glares sent his way. He forced an antagonistic smile on his face as he passed a few people who especially hated him. He knew exactly why they hated him, the nine tails, but that doesn't mean he understood it. It wasn't his fault he was a monster.

It wasn't too long before Naruto arrived at the meeting spot for training. Sakura had yelled at him for nearly being later than Kakashi Sensei. Naruto frowned, looking around. Kakashi Sensei wasn't anywhere in sight. Was she just being dramatic?

He spotted Sasuke, waving just a bit to get his attention. Sasuke ignored Naruto, looking away with a scoff. Naruto huffed in annoyance, not even knowing what he did this time.

Worthless, that's what.

Naruto stiffened, excusing himself from Sakura and walking to a secluded area and sat down. God, he hated when that happened. But was it wrong?

--

Sasuke had glanced at Naruto multiple times during training, noticing how quiet the normally loud blonde was. He wasn't the only one that noticed. Sasuke had seen Kakashi Sensei ask Naruto if anything was on his mind, but he kept brushing it off as nothing and changing the subject.

Sasuke would frown, eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. Why couldn't he figure out what was wrong? Naruto was always so easy to read, but now Sasuke couldn't even figure out what was hiding behind those stupidly alluring blue eyes of his.

He'd talk to Naruto after training.

Timed seemed to slow to an annoying pace as he waited for training to finish. A fucking snail could go faster than this training. Sasuke had sighed in annoyance as soon as it finished, though when he went to go talk to Naruto, the blonde was already gone. Sasuke rolled his eyes, leaving quickly to hopefully catch up with Naruto. He ignored Sakura as she tried to ask him to lunch like she did every day.

How annoying.

Sasuke eventually saw Naruto take a turn to the street that led to his apartment. He quickly followed the blonde, already over this. He was starting to regret this. It wasn't long before He saw Naruto enter his home, slamming the door shut. Sasuke rolled his eyes as he caught up. He hesitated as he raised his hand to knock. What if Naruto was just being weird, like usual? Why should Sasuke have to check on the idiotic blonde? He pursed his lips after a few minutes as he came to the rational decision and just knocked on the door. He was already here, why not just go through with what he originally planned?

There was no answer, causing a seemingly never-ending silence to fill the air around Sasuke. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, knocking for the second time. Was Naruto ignoring him? Sasuke knocked again, a bit harder this time. He could already feel his anger flaring just at the thought of being ignored. Sasuke waited before knocking one last time. When there wasn't an answer, he kicked the door in.

"Dobe!" Sasuke called, walking into the house uninvited. He looked in different rooms before he threw the door open for the bathroom. The raven froze at the right before him. A metallic scent hit him like a truck, nearly making him stumble back. Blood dripped off of the blonde's arm, a knife in his other hand.

"What the fuck!" Sasuke shouted, running forward and gripping both of Naruto's wrists. He squeezed Naruto's wrist until he let go of the knife, letting out a quiet whimper. "What the hell is wrong with you!"

"What the fuck are you doing here, T-Teme!" Naruto snapped, attempting to pull his arms away. He winced in pain, hissing as his wrists rubbed against Sasuke's hands.

"Did you cut yourself?!" Sasuke demanded to know, blaring at the blonde.

Naruto stayed silent, breath picking up as he saw the blood seep through Sasuke's fingers. He's angry, Sasuke's angry. Naruto made Sasuke angry. What would he do? He struggled to pull his arms away, ultimately failing.

"Let me go," Naruto said, pulling harder.

"Answer me!" Sasuke yelled, causing Naruto to flinch back.

"Fine, what if I was! Why would you care?!" The blonde said, stopping his struggling. He was on the verge of tears.

"Why would I care?! You've said it yourself, you're my best friend!" Sasuke yelled, voice cracking slightly.

Naruto's breath hitched, slumping back against the wall. His laugh was bittersweet. "Damn, you really just friend-zoned me." He said quietly. Sasuke almost didn't catch it. Naruto could feel a wave of anxiety wash over him after he said that, but why hide it after this. He might as well just let everything out while he has the chance.

"What?"

"Friend-zone. You just put me right in the friend-zone." Naruto confirmed.

It took Sasuke a moment to comprehend what the blonde had just said. His eyes widened as it finally clicked. "You like me."

Naruto only nodded, finally wrenching his hands from Sasuke's grip. He felt the blood trickle to the floor. It was a weird feeling but it was oddly comforting.

"You like me," Sasuke repeated.

Naruto sighed, glancing at the knife on the floor. Sasuke noticed, growled as he moved to block the knife from view. "Don't even think about trying that shit again."

"Where did this come from?"

"Where- Naruto," Sasuke said in bewilderment. He glanced around the room as if looking for something to prove that he cared. He took a breath and lightly kissed Naruto. It only lasted for a few seconds. "Is liking you back enough proof that I care."

Naruto didn't answer, looking to the side in confusion and embarrassment. He didn't plan on it happening this way. Naruto wanted it to be romantic. He wanted to be the one to kiss Sasuke first. "Well shit," Naruto mumbled. "Yeah." He didn't look to see the hint of a smile on Sasuke's face. But he also didn't see the worried look either.

"Yeah, shit," Sasuke repeated.
