ever since she was little, rory and her parents would always go out to eat on fridays, her mom called it "the weekly family dinner." this soon changed when her dad left them 6 years ago.

sure her mom tried to have their traditional dinners, but once her dad remarried, her mom became an alcoholic to ease the pain of being replaced.

today rory found herself getting dressed with one thing on her mind, it's the day before a big game. these dinners where always important because she would have both of her parents with her, hyping her up on how she'll do great the next day. she felt supported.

now there was no one to hype her up. no one to go to dinner with. no one to watch her in the stands. no one.

rory decided that she was going out to dinner by herself tonight. she was going to take her car, the one that her alcoholic parent doesn't use anymore so cassi claims it as her own, and head to a restaurant with the thought that no one is in her corner hanging over her.

when rory arrived at the restaurant, she asked for a booth. she wanted to hide from anyone that went to her school, because no one knew how she was borderline parentless. what would people think if they saw the captain of the volleyball team eating alone?

that's the problem, rory always cared what people thought of her. sorta like she always needed some kind of validation. rory was too wrapped up in her thoughts to notice the curly-haired waitress standing in front of her. she was only pulled out of her thoughts when she heard someone clear their throat.

rory looked up, and gave the waitress a small smile. "hey toni."

toni was confused. of course she seen the blue-eyed girl in the halls before and even seen her playing on the court. but how did she know her name?

"uh aurora-"

"rory" she hated her first name. not only because it was the name her father gave her, but because it was too known for the princess. the last thing rory needed was for people to think she was like a princess, who needed a prince to come and save her. rory hated being called aurora, and toni could tell with the scowl on the girls face.

"well rory how'd you uh.. know my name?" toni could feel her cheeks heating up by the way rory was looking at her. she had a small smirk on her face and that was enough to make toni go into gay panic.

rory just laughed at the flustered girl. "i mean, your name tag does have your name on it."

toni's eyed widened in realization. of course someone like rory, someone everyone admired, would never know someone like toni.
