He knew he shouldn’t have been there.

Sitting on the top row of the seating at the side of the pool while casually reading a physics book, Matthew Bellamy tried not to draw any attention to himself.

He wasn’t actually reading a damn word of it but he sat there anyway. The real reason he was there was because it was the swim teams practise hour. More importantly, Dominic Howard's practise hour.

It was stupid really because Dominic had never even acknowledged Matthew's existence let alone spoken one word to him.

They were so unlike it was unreal. Dominic was friendly and out going, head of the football team, captain of the swim team. He was a general golden god compared to Matthew's pale skeletal form.

Matthew pondered that it wasn’t so bad. He was captain of the chess team, excelled at playing the piano and was the highest graded at all the sciences they were studying. Truth be known he'd finished all his course work three weeks after getting it even though they had been told they had three months to complete it. So with all the free time he found himself with, he chose to spend most of it here.

" Howard best time yet. Why don't you all hit the showers." Called out the coach before disappearing through the double doors to the gym.

Matthew was far too distracted now, watching Dom gracefully stride the length of the pool in tight fitting black shorts, so completely dripping wet, that he'd failed to notice three of the other boys from the swim team creep up the stairs.

" Fancy a swim Bellamy." Sniggered Alex.

" I think he does." Chimed in Tom with a goofy grin on his face.

Matthew had no time to react as they grabbed him out of his seat like he was a feather and carried him down the stairs.

He thrashed and wailed, pleading for them to let him go but it was all to no avail. They laughed hysterically as they threw him fully clothed into the deep end.

Matthew sunk like a stone. Never a strong swimmer, he gasped for air and only succeeded in filling his lungs with more water. The pool lights took on a beautiful shimmer through the blue as he started to slip away from consciousness. Just then a strong hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him back towards the surface.

Coughing and spluttering, the air burnt his lungs. Who ever it was brushed the hair out of Matthews eyes and tucked the sopping wet strands behind his ears.

" Better?" they asked softly. Matthew still couldn’t see properly, the chlorine stinging his eyes and the tears pouring from all the coughing, forcing him to scrunch his eyes tightly shut.

" Oh Howard, my hero." Squealed Tom sarcastically as Alex and Nathan giggled like a pack of hyenas.

Matthew's eyes snapped open and sure enough bobbing around in front of him was Dominic. His blonde hair starting to curl from the water and framing his face perfectly. Matthew was star struck.

" You gonna be okay now?" he asked, sincerity clearly visible in his eyes.

Matthew just nodded as Dominic swam to the steps and walked away. Matthew still hadn't moved, desperately treading water as he recovered from the shock of it all.
