A/N: Hello everyone! This is a new fanfic from me! I followed an artist here recently named sketchy_tune1 on instagram (please go follow them! Their art is so beautiful and amazing!) and they made a short comic of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot as little children. So I wanted to write a story about it. Please enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: I do not own the characters of Animaniacs nor the idea for the story. Animaniacs belong to Warner Brothers Studios and the idea for the comic belongs to sketchy_tune1 on instagram.Link to the artwork: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKUHdZ8JmhV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

It was a dreary day in the town of Burbank, California. Rain fell miserably in the city and it seemed like everyone was in a sleepy state of mind. Normally, this town would be hustling and bustling with actors and directors running all over town. Today, however, the city was quiet. Thunder rolled and lightning cracked across the sky as it stormed. For the Warner Brothers' studio, this type of day was usually spent having the actors and actresses doing scenes inside of sound stages, while the CEO and business executives held boring meetings all day, but for three children in the studio's iconic Water Tower, this day was especially horrid. Yakko, the eldest of the Warner siblings, was tending to his infant sister Dot, who was crying non-stop. He bounced her and rubbed her back, trying everything that he knew to do to soothe the small infant. His fur was a mess, sticking out in all different directions. He was extremely exhausted as well, if the stress lines underneath his eyes didn't give it away.
"Come on Dottie," he whined, "please don't cry, please."
This only seemed to make the infant wailed louder, causing the oldest to wince in pain. He sighed as he sat on the floor of the water tower, rocking her. "Okay, duly noted. You hate the name Dottie." He sighed as he continued to rock her. "I've tried feeding you and I ended up getting more mashed peas on my overalls than I did getting the peas in your mouth... I changed your wet diaper an hour ago... I even made a heartbeat sound..." He then wiped her little cheeks of the fallen tears and mumbled softly to himself, "I never know how to help you..." A loud roll of thunder made a loud BANG sound, followed by the flash of bright lightning. This caused the power to go out, making the oldest Warner to jump in surprise. He could hear Wakko's, his little brother, little paws padding down to him in a hurry.
"Yakko!" The middle Warner yelled.
"It's okay sib! It's just a thunderstorm!" Yakko called out. He didn't necessarily like having his two young siblings in a rickety, old (and metal) water tower in the middle of a storm, but he didn't have a choice. They locked them up in here; they are the monsters that took them away from their parents. He could feel his blood boiling thinking about how the executives took Yakko and his siblings away from their parents. It was ruthless, malicious, cold; it was-Yakko's attention snapped back to his crying infant sister. He could feel that Dot needed a change, so he grabbed a nearby flashlight and turned it on, then stood it on it's flat bottom, lighting up the darkened water tower. He laid her blanket down on the floor and quickly changed the little infant. When he first had to change her, he absolutely hated it because to him it was gross having to change his sister's diaper. Now he understood he had to step in as the responsible parent and care for both of his siblings.
A responsible parent.
He was 7-years-old. He could barely make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for himself, let alone feeding two more mouths. He had learned fairly quickly how he needed to care for "boo-boos," as Wakko called them, and learned to fix instant noodles fairly quickly for him and Wakko to eat. Dot was harder to feed as he never knew how much formula to fix or how to properly mash the food for Dot. Yakko looked down at Dot as he fastened her onesie. He frowned softly as he gently rubbed her little belly. Dot was around 12 months, to a year-old. Yakko really wasn't sure. He had heard his mother wishing her a happy "twelve months" birthday a while back, but he couldn't be too sure how long that was now.
He picked Dot up gently and cradled her on his lap. His mind wandered to his little brother as he thought about Wakko, who was three years younger than him. The little 4-year-old was different than Yakko. He wasn't different in a bad way, but different in a good way. The middle Warner had a Scouse accent, which made Yakko wonder who in his family had a Scouse accent as well. He always used to joke that his brother had a little bit of the Beatles in his blood, which always resulted in the little Warner replying with, "Faboo!"
Yakko's mind then wandered to how his mother used to soothed his sister sometimes. Lullabies... Songs that are used to lull children to sleep. He sighed. Did he know any lullabies? The only song he remembered and liked was the song "You are my Sunshine." The other songs that he has heard before are lame, but something about that sunshine song made him happy. He figured it couldn't hurt to try and sing it.
He looked down at the tiny infant. She was still crying, her facial fur flattened against her face due to the tears. Her little nose was runny too, so Yakko gently wiped her nose with his oversized overalls. Here goes nothing... He thought to himself.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine," He began.
Little Dot heard her brother singing, which caused her to stop crying and look up at him, sniffling and hiccuping. This caused Yakko to smile a bit as he cuddled her close to his body, feeling her nuzzle into the fabric of his overalls.
"You make me happy when skies are gray," He continued. He heard soft padding of paws behind him as he turned to see Wakko standing a few feet away from him. Wakko bowed his head, looking down at the floor. His oversized, blue turtleneck sweater was dragging on the floor and his red hat was oversized on his head. Yakko remembered the day that Wakko put on their father's blue turtleneck and red hat. At first, their father didn't like the idea of giving up his shirt and hat, but after seeing how Wakko liked wearing it so much, decided to let the little guy keep them. I've got plenty anyways. Yakko remembered his father saying this.
"You'll never know dear how much I love you," Yakko continued to sing. He saw Wakko clasp his hands together in the long sleeves of the shirt, giving him a worried look. Yakko gave him a soft and warm smile as he nodded his head for the middle sibling to come over. Wakko ran over to him and threw himself against Yakko's side. It knocked the wind out of the oldest sibling for a bit, but he recovered quickly. Dot had formed a small smile on her face as she listened to her big brother sing.
"Please don't take my sunshine away." Yakko sang, hugging his siblings close. Tears threatened to fall from his eyes as they stung his eyes. Why was he all of a sudden so emotional? Yakko blinked them away and nuzzled his little brother's hat clad head softly.
"Yakko? How long will they keep us here?" Wakko asked softly.
This question struck Yakko by surprise. He hadn't thought about how long they would be here. How long would the executives keep three kids locked away? Away from their parents? Did their parents even want them anymore? These thoughts swirled around in his head until it began hurting. He shook his head softly as he looked down at Wakko, who was now looking up at him.
"Uhhhhhhh, I'm not sure pal." Seeing Wakko look down in disappointment broke Yakko's heart. He gave Wakko a kiss on the forehead and lifted his chin, causing the middle Warner to look up at him. "But listen to me. I will be here no matter what. Nothing bad will happen to you or Dottie." He said, soon getting a smack to his chest. For a baby, she had a good arm. "Ouch! Okay okay, I'll quit calling you Dottie!" He said. He felt Wakko nod softly against his chest.
Dot babbled at him in baby talk. If he had to guess what she said, it would have been, "Yeah and next time you call me that it'll be a punch!" He chuckled softly as he watched Wakko curl up next to him and begin to drift off to sleep. He looked down at Dot, who's little eyelids were starting to get heavy with sleep. He put her blanket over the three of them and listened to the rain plopping against the metal roof.Being a parent was hard, but being a sibling was easy. That is one thing Yakko was certain of.
