I had done Nate's hair, ruffling it with ny hands. He looked generally scruffy, but in a good way. His shirt had been partially unbuttoned and I'd smeared a little lipstick on the curve of his mouth. I had undone a couple of buttons too, and had a pretty convincing face prepared.
Nate and I were relaxing on his bed, watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Some gory scene had just ended as Nate's mum called out to him.
"Nate! Dinner! Quinn, are you staying?"
I giggled with Nate before we answered.
"Yeah!" We called together.
We sat back down.
"One call, one more then they come upstairs." He spoke.
"Then plan Ultra Straight begins." I said.
A murder passed before we heard the second call:
"Come on, Kids! It's getting cold!"
"One minute!" Nate hollered.
We sat on his bed, facing each other.
"I hope this isn't weird." I say
"Nah, its Nate and Quinn, sexy and not weird best friends forever!"
I laughed, Nate had such a calming presence.
We heard a foot on the staircase. Two steps more.
Two. Three.
I had been watching the door, somehow expecting Nate's parents to climb the next five silently and speedily.
Nate kissed me. He had his hands on me, and made a very convincing display of being straight. I kissed him right back.
Nate had me very innapropriately positioned on him when his mother walked in.
"I've called you twice alrea-Oh!"
Nate pulled away abruptly, and swore. His head was bowed and he scrubbed his face.
"Ah, shit,"
I sat upright, bit my lip and looked down. The air was about as awkward as humanly possible.
"But, but. Nate, she's bisexual. You're bisexual, right? But-"
"Yeah, Bi. As in, I like girls AND boys." I clarified.
"Um." Jennette was shocked, and I kind of loved catching her at a loss for words. Her Mum Mode kciked in soon enough.
"Um, how long has, um, this been happening?"
"Um, How Long, Quinn? Seven months? Yeah, about that." Nate replied, and took me into his arms as a boyfriend would his partner.
I did that smile-and-look-down thing that all the couples do.
"And you've been together all this time?"
"Uh-huh,"
"We'll talk about this later. Be, um, safe. Dinner's ready, so get down once you've both washed up." I could've sworn Jennette said 'thoroughly' under her breath.
"Okay" Nate said, scrubbing his face in that hot way again.
"Carrots... and peas..."
"Yep."
Nate's mum walked out the door, and we waited until it was silent to laugh.
"Yeah! Did you see her face?" I laughed.
"Yes! Oh wow, that so worked!"
"Hey Nate?"
"Mm?"
"You're a shit kisser, by the way." I laughed.
Nate literally tackled me on the bed.
"No, No!" I begged as Nate tickled me.
"What was that? I'm ana amazing kisser, did you say?"
"YES YES JUST STOP!" I squealed at him.
Nate stopped on top of me. He smiled his gorgeous smile. He didn't get off me, though.
"Say it, Quinn."
Nate was close to me, now but it wasn't awkward to me because he was gay. I just thought he was milking his bragging rights.
"You're an amazing kisser. You happy?"
"Not yet."
Nate kissed me again, soft and sweet. He had warm lips and was actually very skillful.
"Told you so." He said after he pulled away. It hadn't been awkward, just warm and curious.
"Fuck, I wish you were straight sometimes!"
"Lucky for Leo Di Caprio, I'm not," he winked, milking his well deserved title.
"C'mon, lets go eat cold peas before your mum performs an exorcism on me." I said, sliding out from under him.
