"Hey, Edward. This is utter chaos. I need a distraction."
We were in Leore and everyone was going crazy over whether the military was true or not. They were on the brink of civil war. I looked around and saw a guitar. I immediately ran to it and grabbed it. I used alchemy to make a stage out of the rock. No one was looking yet but I transfigured a stool and sat down.
"Edward, this isn't the time to sit down!"
I then grabbed to guns and made an amplifier with a microphone.
Now, I grew up down an old dirt road in a town you wouldn't know
My pop's picked the place up for fifteen hundred bucks back in 1964
My grandfather was a drinker, back in the day, he put him down
But war is known to change a man and whiskey's known to change a man, butThat's not me
I rarely drink from the bottle but I'll smoke a little weed
I still live in the sticks where you wouldn't go
In a town of twelve hundred off an old dirt road
And a country boy is all I'll ever beNow, it's been twelve years since I sold my soul to the devil in L.A.
He said sign your name here on the dotted line and your songs, they all will play
He set up shop on Sunset, he put me up at the Marquee
He said "you want to sell a million records boy, you better listen to me"
He said "change your style, whiten your smile, you can lose a couple of pounds
If you want to live this life, you better lose that wife, do you need your friends around?"And I said, no, that's not me
Cause the biggest things in life are your friends and family
And I like my jeans and my old t-shirts
And a couple of extra pounds never really hurt
'Cause a country boy is all I'll ever be'Cause Hank taught me just how to stay alive
You'll never catch me out the house without my .9 or .45
I got a big orange tractor and a diesel truck
And my idea of heaven is chasing whitetail bucks
And as a country boy, I know I can surviveNow, two flags fly above my land that sums up how I feel
One is the colors that fly high and proud, the red, the white, the blue
The other one's got a rattlesnake with a simple statement made
"Don't Tread On Me" is what is says and I'll take that to my graveBecause this is me
I'm proud to be American and strong in my beliefs
And I've said it before but I'll say it again
'Cause I've never needed the government to hold my hand
And I've said it before but I'll say it again
'Cause my family's always fought and died to save this land
And a country boy is all I'll ever beI stopped singing and let the applause ring from both sides.
"Now... I get that letting the military into your land is scary. I get that you don't trust us and that this transition is dodgy at best. But we as a people of Amestris just wish to help all of you. We aren't here to change your beliefs. We are not here to change your culture or ways of living. We are here to help you all stay safe and rebuild. Believe what you want. That Cornell was a god living among you or whatever. We won't change that about you. What we want to do is give you and your people the prosperity you deserve. When I visited these lands 2 years ago I noticed one thing alone. The lands were barren of crop and all of you had to rely on the trade from outward cities to survive and that placed unneeded tax upon your people. I wish, we as a military, wish to give you farming lands so you may prosper on your means. So you mustn't have to pay a high expenditure on tax for food. So you can have the dignity of a people. Not just by blood, but by the way, you live as well. That is all. Now, how about we put away the guns and I will play another song for y'all."
A large number of guns dropping and cheers were immense. I knew it would work. It just took one who was courageous enough to say what was needed to stop a single blood bath.
A leoran stepped on stage as asked if we could play a certain song named rockstar. I knew how to play it so I said what the hell, why not.
After that so I stepped from the stage and let the people continue the concert themselves.
"How did you do that. You banded people together just by singing and strumming a guitar."
"The power of music is more powerful than alchemy at times. Music helped me get through a slump of mine when younger. Way young. Al was only 5 at the time and I was 8. Mom had just died and all the money she left us went to rent and paying for her funeral. We had the house for the next 6 months but we had no money for food. Sure, we could go to granny's for food, but I didn't want to keep relying on her to feed us. I went to the attic and saw a guitar and cleaned it. Dad left some books on how to play and I used that to stay alive. Music got me and Al food. I have been brushing up every once in a while when we are in the dorm but I hadn't played a full song since the week before I got my state license for alchemy. It was invigorating to play again."
"I see. Well, I had no clue you knew how to play. You looked like a grown adult up there. I almost was too shocked to speak. Thanks for the help, Major Elric."
"Come now, you know I don't like throwing my rank around. That is your thing."
