"How long have you been in love with her?" Hugo asked Agent Eric as they both went outside to smoke.
Eric puffed out smoke from his cigar and looked at Hugo. He then turned his gaze to the sky and said, "Ever since she started working at the bureau."
Hugo never removed his stare on him. He just nodded and tends to his cigarette. "I loved her since the day she saved my father."
"Damn, we both like the same girl," Eric chuckled. "The question is, did she have feelings for us both?"
"Oh, God damn, I never thought of that. She said she's married to her work. She said she doesn't have time for relationships," Hugo chuckled and blows smoke into the air.
"But I'm willing to wait." Agent Eric said with a serious face. He has decided to continue treating her like a good friend. He knows Violet might say that she doesn't have friends, but she does. She has him, and he will do anything for her just like a good friend.
"Same here. May the best man win." Hugo offered his hand to Agent Eric for a handshake.
They've decided that one of them should go out and buy some food and the other one should watch for Agent Violet. Eric volunteers to go out and buy some food for them, then Hugo agrees.
"Do you want to know why Agent Patricia used Potassium Chloride in her attempt to kill me?" Violet asked Hugo who was now sitting on the couch trying to watch some TV shows. She tried to take away the awkwardness in the air because Hugo hasn't talked to her once he walked inside the room.
Hugo looked at her with his chin on his hand. "What?"
"Because Potassium Chloride can cause cardiac arrest in just a few minutes. It can kill the victim instantly and it can't be detected on autopsy because, by that time, the potassium level of the victim has already lowered. She tried to inject it directly into my dextrose so that there will be no visible injection marks."
"Agent Eric Montenaro is nice. He's a good person," he said avoiding the topic about Agent Patricia's Potassium Chloride attempt as he walked towards her.
"Yep," she said, popping the 'p'.
"Do you like him?" He can't help himself. He tried to refrain from asking her questions about her feelings but he can't help it. He's so into her, and he can't hide the fact that the attraction between them is insatiable.
Violet's forehead creased in confusion. She is thinking about why Hugo is asking logical and weird questions. Of course, she liked Eric. He is always good to her though he's kind of annoying sometimes.
He laughed, a sad laugh. "You don't have to answer that, I'm sorry."
"Hugo, why are you saying sorry?"
He was wrong. He was wrong about Violet and Eric. The two have become best of friends since the first time they both worked for the bureau. He didn't saw the looks that Agent Eric gave Violet on their missions. But he was hoping that the sparks and attraction he felt and the feeling of connection between him and Violet weren't gone and he hoped that Violet feels the same.
"Hey, Hugo?" Violet waves her hand in front of his face. Their faces were twelve inches apart and he felt like he was lost in her grey eyes for a minute.
His eyelashes fluttered as he slowly closed the gap between them. Violet's cheeks blushed, her pupils dilate and Hugo remained looking at her beautiful irises. "I never saw such beautiful eyes as yours," he absent-mindedly said.
Violet smiled softly and easily closed the gap of their lips. His lips are so soft, she can't stop kissing him and Hugo felt the same. Hugo held her nape and kissed her more deeply. Violet puts her hands on Hugo's shoulder because she felt like she'd melt in his touches and kisses.
