friday couldn't come fast enough. the first week of school seemed to drag on and everyone looked forward to the weekend already. even jungkook, who liked reading and getting out of the house — even he was feeling okay when the bell rang at the end of the day and everyone stood to pour into the halls.

he would have to find his best friend now, somewhere in the halls hiding with all the other bodies. she was easier to spot anyways with her tall self and high ponytail.

"jungkook!" he heard his name being called and soon yeji was smiling in front of him. "i got you gummies." she said, hanging the small package and then the two started to walk beside each other to the side exit.

"thanks." the boy put them in his backpack pocket for later.

yeji pulled her duffel strap higher onto her shoulder and took a deep breath, "gosh i hope today's practice isn't too brutal. last season sucked." she said, remembering their old lacrosse coach and the drills he had them do. it did nothing to better them as a team, just something to waste time and fuel his paycheck for being there.

jungkook shrugged, "at least you were fastest." he pointed out.

yeji thought about it, then nodded. "good point." she said as they headed out to the back fields, sun shining on their heads and making them squint. "i'll see you later okay? eat the gummies." his best friend smiled again and then started to jog out to the field where the rest of her team was.

jungkook gave her a thumbs up and headed up the metal bleachers. no one else was here, because the ones staying after school on a friday were either on the sports teams or down there flirting with their boyfriends or girlfriends. jungkook just wanted to watch. he found a spot in the middle and put his backpack beside himself on the bench.

the fields in front of him were for the girls until 4 pm. on the other half he could already see the football players getting comfortable and throwing the ball back and forth as the rest of the team showed up one by one. some cheerleaders were there too, and jungkook could see his sister in the middle of the girly mob.

he looked away and pulled out his book, opening up to the bookmarked page and finding his spot amongst the words. it was harder to concentrate, considering the cheers and obnoxious shouts from the football players down the field. "jungkook!" yeji yelled for her friend, seeing his fluffy head pick up to see what she had wanted. she held her arm up once she say jungkook was looking, the little bracelet on her wrist clear as day.

it was her lucky one, the one jungkook got her for christmas this past year. she'd worn in every game and started to score, and now she'd never take it off for any practice or game.

jungkook smiled and held his arm up too, his own sitting snug around a bony wrist.

yeji was very loud, maybe thats why she got the team captain position this season. its also why she got some looks for yelling at her friend who sat all the way on the bleachers. they were unwanted, making the boy already want to hide more underneath his hoodie.

there was another team captain looking over now, no longer joking about the other day and rally girls in their little skirts. taehyung squinted from the sun up at the bleachers, seeing a small frame in a baggy hoodie with the same book in his lap. now he recognized him, the black hair and bright eyes looking as shy as ever.

taehyung wondered how many times the boy was around and went unnoticed.

"why is he just sitting there." it was one of the cheerleaders asking no one in particular, some of them looking over too and snickering at the idea of him sitting alone. "its weird." another said.

taehyung looked over at mirae, seeing how she stayed quiet and looked a little uncomfortable. he expected her to say something, to defend her little brother or at least get her team to shut up and focus on practice ⏤ but she didn't, not when she could giggle too with the others.

there was a spark of annoyance in the footballers chest, growing with each giggle and lack of care for a sibling. taehyung walked by to grab a football on the ground, "hey hyoyeon." he smiled that charming smile at the cheer leader who made a comment about the boy. she saw the quarterback talking to her, instantly forgetting about anything else other than the handsome male giving her attention.

"hi taehyung." her eyelashes started to flutter and she smiled sweetly at the athlete. she opened her mouth again to say something flirty, earn some points and maybe score with the star.

he spoke first instead. "thats what it looks like when people show up to support you." taehyung said, "i thought you'd know what thats like considering all the support you need for your chest." he winked at her, seeing the realization on her face and the way her mouth dropped open.

some of the players tried not to laugh at that, eyes going wide and turning to not see the way the cheerleader glared at the quarterback. taehyung picked up the football and went on his way, briefly meeting eyes with the girl that should have said something first. mirae didnt though, "okay come on girls." she tried to gather her team again, making them focus again on their routine.

"damn taehyung." woosung said to his friend as they headed to start some runs. "are you trying to hit it with mirae or make the whole cheerleader team hate you." he said.

taehyung glanced over and nodded his head over to the right, "how about we start practice." he said.

"good thinking kim." it was coach walking out with sunglasses on and his cap on. "why dont we do what our quarterback suggested and get this practice going. unless you all got something better to do next friday night."

"no sir." the football team said at once, some putting on their helmets with the rest were already ready. they knew what to do, not needing to be told like children. falling into place like a puzzle, they were complete in their setup on the field and started to practice some plays, running through them and making sure everyone knew where to go.

they worked like a machine, moving parts flowing like water over the field and kicking up dust with each step. it was almost beautiful, in a violent way that came with aggressive hits and bodies knocking into the ground. somehow there was a beauty in the passion.

it was drew his dark eyes, glancing over too many times to watch the football practice and losing his place in the book ⏤ because jungkook had become too damn curious.
