1960 January

I looked at myself in the mirror, nervously. This will be my first day at this company and i'm stressed already. If I screw up i'd need to live on the streets. I live alone since i'm twenty years old and it's quite hard to take care of myself. My whole life i was just trying to survive. I can't wait to just let it be and be happy.

I looked at the clock. 6:30 am. I need to be there at 7 am. I'll be there in time. The building was just a ten minute walk from my apartment. I took a deep breath and put on my red lipstick. I wore a white blouse with a black pencil skirt and black heels. I hated this uncomfortable shoes but they went best with my outfit.

After ten minutes I grabbed my bag and went to the huge building. When i was there i walked to the reception "Excuse me, I'm the new secretary for Mr. Miller" I spoke up. He was the partner of the actual managing director. The woman on the other side of the table looked at me confused but then answered. "Hello, You must me Ms. Y/l/n, the newcomer. Walk down the hall, right door. There's the office of Abby Gerhard. She'd be there for you. Good luck!" Wait what does she mean with good luck? And who is Abby Gerhard? "Okey thank you" I answered briefly.

As I reached the door, my legs were like jelly and my palms were sweating. After taking a deep breath, i knocked. "Yes?" I heard from the other side of the door and i slowly opened the door, stepping inside.

I forgot how to breath as i saw a beautiful brunette with chocolate brown eyes and skin, clearer than my mind. "H-Hello Ms. Gerhard. I-I'm y/n
y/l/n." I finally said, stuttering like a fool. I couldn't take my eyes of her. Stop thinking like that. You're sick!

"Hello Ms. y/l/n. My name is Abby Gerhard." She said with an almost invisible smile as she stood up, walking towards me. I swallowed and forced myself to smile. "So Mr. Miller told me to show you around so let's go." She spoke again and went ahead. I followed her.
She was kind of cold but it was seductive.

When we finished, she stopped in front of a door that was across to her office. "That is your office. I'll give you tasks and you will do as I say. Understood?" You shivered at her words. "Y-yes Ms. Gerhard" You said, stuttering again. Something about her made me so nervous.
"Alright. So begin working. I'll see you on your break at 10 am." She simply said and smiled. Then she walked away. I took a deep breath and began.

Most of the time I brought coffee to others or had to copy something. But what did i expected.
Now I brought two men their coffee. "Is that what i'm getting paid for?" I finally asked, annoyed. "What are you?" One of them asked. "What?" I was confused. "You are a women right? And this is where women belong. In the kitchen." He said.

I opened my mouth to say something I would probably regret but I felt a hand on my arm slightly squeezing it. I looked backwards and realized that it was Ms. Gerhard. I thought I would pass out every moment. The men weren't paying attention to us anymore and Ms. Gerhard dragged me out of the room.

"Sweetheart, let me tell you something. That are just some stupid men who are telling women down to feel stronger okay? Don't let them bother you and just ignore that." She said. I got goosebumps and simply nodded. She noticed my reaction at her touch and words but didn't say anything about it. "Let's go to the cafeteria. It's ten o'clock." She now spoke and i couldn't do anything again but nodding.

We went to the cafeteria and sat down. "What do you want to drink?" I asked her, standing up. "No sit down. You have brought drinks to others often enough." She saif and chuckled. The sweetest thing i've ever heard.
"Okey, then a cappuccino for me please, white." You said smiling. She nodded. After two minutes she came back with our drinks and sat across to me. She picked the same as I did.

I didn't know what to say so i stayed quiet and waited for here to speak. "What did you do before?" She finally said. "What?"  "Work wise." she added.  "Oh nothing big you know. I just had small jobs at bars or stores before." I said looking down to my hands, embarrassed.

"There's no need to be ashamed. If you would know what I did before this job here." "What?" I asked almost choking on my drink. She said nothing and smirks. "And do you have a boyfriend?" She suddenly asked and i chuckled nervously "Uhm... no." I said playing with my fingers.

"Why not?" She asked curiosly. Why is she asking me these questions?
"Uh, I d- I don't know actully. I'm not really interested." I stuttered, hoping she would stop talking about it. She was silent for a moment.

"Okay so my shift is ending right now because I'm here since 5 am but have a nice day." She suddenly said and stood up. I was confused. Wait, she stayed with me even if she could go?
I was looking at her one last time before she made her way home.

Whatever... I need to stop thinking like that...
