“Oh, shit. Hey, heads up!” Greg shouted as the football barreled toward the back of the girl’s head. We had been throwing the ball around, when he decided he wanted me to go long. All the way to Alaska. I got to tell you for a quarterback his aim wasn’t all that great. The football bumped off the girls head and she tripped forward, landing on her knees, her hands catching her before she could fall anymore.

Everyone around her stopped with mouths agape, waiting for her reaction. I was walking towards her when she stood up and turned around looking for the ball. I stopped as I caught sight of her face. She was new, definitely new, and beautiful. She had bright blue eyes that were slanted in an exotic way and glowed against her tan complexion with a pair of pink plump lips. She had light brown, almost golden, curls around her head to her shoulders. She was probably about five-seven, and she was wearing a pair of tight blues jeans and a grey T-shirt with a faded jean jacket.

She wiped off her hand a and knees and walked toward the ball.

“Over here!” Greg shouted from behind me, waving for her to pick up the ball and throw it to him.

She turned her head to us and I bit my lip, as she looked back down at the ball, shook her head, rolled her eyes and walked away. I couldn’t help but watch her as she walked away, patting the back of her head.

“What the hell?” Greg complained, obviously annoyed that she hadn’t thrown the ball.

“Who is she?” I mumbled, unable to look away from where she had disappeared through the front entrance of the school.

Greg came to stand by me and smirked. “I don’t know. But she must be the new student that everyones been talking about. Rumor has it that she tried to off herself. Shame to have that body go to waste, though, don’t you think?”

She tried to kill herself? Damn. That’s hardcore.

I don’t know why but his comment on her body made me want to slap him. Maybe it was because he was trying to make light of a serious situation through sexist jokes. He was my best friend but sometimes he was a real insensitive asshole. I’ll admit she did have a nice body but that shouldn’t be the only thing that she is remembered for. The thing that makes her noticeable.

I glared at him. “Are you fucking serious? You’re telling me that she tried to kill herself and the only thing you find wrong with it is that she’s hot? Dude, that’s so fucking wrong.”

He raised his hands in mock surrender. “Oh, sorry. Didn’t realize that little Jue-Jue had already  caught a crush. Don’t let Mavis hear about it,” He teased. “Op, speaking the devil and she shall appear.” He muttered just as Mavis set a hand on my arm.

I turned to her with a smile and she kissed me hungrily, wrapping her arms around my neck. I most certainly wasn’t expecting that, I knew that we hadn’t seen each other for two weeks but jeez, she was attacking me.

I kissed her back before pushing her away gently. “Hey, Mavis.”

She smiled widely, her teeth gleaming in the California sunlight and her brown eyes sparkling with excitement. She flipped her long, dark brown hair over her shoulder smoothed down her green dress, as though it had been ruffled in our ten second make-out.

“Hey, honey. Happy New Year! I missed you so much.” She giggled, looking at me flirtatiously.

We hadn’t seen each other since the first week of winter vacation, she had to go visit her grandparents for the holidays. Truth be told, I hadn’t missed her all that much. I had been hanging with family and Greg the whole time; I hadn’t had time to miss her.
