As I pulled up to the address that Sam had given me, I practiced in my head everything I would say to the coward who had abandoned my sister when she needed him the most.
Shutting my car door, I quickly approached the door of what looked to be a nice house and knocked angrily.
A few minutes passed by and no one opened the door. I furiously knocked yet again and rang the doorbell obnoxiously.
As I lifted my hand to knock yet again, the door opened and revealed someone I was definitely not expecting.
"Mr.Ricci?" My face paled as I saw my history teacher staring at me unamused.
" I don' t know how you found out where I lived but I need you to go. I already saw you enough today at school, I certainly do not need to see your face at this time of the day while I' m trying to sleep." The calmness in his voice was scary because I know that if looks could kill, I would be 6 feet under.
I don't know how the hell I had put myself in this situation. My sister must have given me the wrong address because there was no way I was at the right house. Now I had to deal with the consequences of my actions and I didn't even know how to explain this to him without looking like a total freak.
" I- I am so so so sorry. I thought someone named Jonah lived here but I think I got the wrong place so I'm just going to go. Hopefully we can pretend this never happened because I am absolutely mortified right now , so..." As soon as the words poured out of my mouth, I turned around and made a run for it. This was probably the most embarassing thing that had ever happened to me and there was no way I was letting myself forget it. This would keep me up for years.
As I reached my car, I heard my name being called by Mr. Ricci.
Turning around slowly as I still felt my cheeks burn, I saw him leaning against his door with confusion written all over his face.
" You said you' re looking for Jonah?"
I nodded since I didn't think I could get any more words out without looking like an idiot.
"My nephew lives with me and he happens to be named Jonah. What exactly brought you here so furious that you wanted to speak to him about?" His eyes searched my face as I began to walk towards him.
" I don' t think that's any of your business," I replied before remembering who exactly I was talking to.
His face contorted into one of anger.
" Not my business! I' m not the one showing up on your doorstep at 10pm! You woke me up from sleeping so now you've made it my business," He stalked towards me as if I were his prey.
I backed up to try to put as much distance between us but that didn't work. He grabbed my arm forcefully and dragged me into his house.
"Jonah! Come downstairs right now!" His voice echoed into what seemed an empty house.
What the fuck had I gotten myself into? I was in Mr.Ricci' s house about to confront his nephew for being a piece of shit.
I stood there awkwardly as I heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
" Elijah, I was talking on the phone. What' s so important?" He rubbed his face frustrated. Elijah? So that was Mr.Ricci' s first name.
Then Jonah saw me and I felt his eyes slowly start to recognize me. My sister and I had been told our whole lives we could pass for twins so I knew that even though we had never met, he would know who I was.
"This girl is very angry and apparently you have something to do with it. So I want to know what the fuck is going on," Mr.Ricci asked as his voice clearly let everyone know that he wasn't in the mood for games.
Fuck. Confronting Jonah was proving to be much more difficult than I had initially expected.
