The rest of the time in detention was silent. He never brought up the whole Jonah situation and I didn't bring up the way he screamed at me for refusing to move my seat.

He spent the time on his computer, occasionally writing things down in a notebook. Meanwhile, I had  pretended to read my book when in reality I was watching him.

As soon as the clock hit 5, I was out of that room.

I ran to my car and drove home knowing that Sam would be confused that I had come home from school late.

"I'm home!" I yelled as I entered my home but there was no response. That's a bit strange.

"Sam?" I called out again and again but still no response.

I heard footsteps upstairs which let me know that someone was definitely in the house but it wasn't Sam.

Where the fuck had Sam gone? She didn't have a car and she told me she would stay home all day.

What if someone had hurt her and was waiting to do the same thing to me?

I quickly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and cautiously made my way up the stairs.

I heard the footsteps again and this time I knew where they were coming from.

They were coming from my room. Fuck.

I was too young to die, I had barely had any life experiences.

I hadn't even been kissed yet, this couldn't be the way it all ended.

I swung my door open expecting to see someone in a ski mask but there was no one there.

Now this was turning into some paranormal shit and I wasn't looking forward to it.

"Hello?" I called out not really knowing who or what would response.

I sighed as I heard nothing. Maybe I had imagined it all.

As I turned around to leave, my closet door opened and out jumped Vera and Sam.

"You should see your face!" Vera could barely get the words out while she laughed.

"What the fuck! I had a knife, I could have killed you guys by accident!" My heart was still beating out of my chest as I sat down on my bed looking at the two pranksters.

Sam was laughing and even though it was at my expense, I felt happy looking at her like that.

She hadn't laughed in a while and if scaring the crap out of me did, then they should scare me more often.

"Ok, the real reason I hid in your closet for over an hour was because... I know some very interesting information," Vera wiggled her eyebrows and my heart began to race again.

Could this information possibly involve Jackson?

"I'm listening," I anxiously bit my nails as I waited for her response.

"So you know how today I had cheer practice? Well, some of the girls were talking about this party tonight and guess who's party they were talking about? " Vera looked at me expecting an answer.

"Is Jackson having a party?" He was the only one who came to mind but Jackson having a party didn't make sense. He told me he hasn't hosted any parties since last year after all his problems at home started.

"Nope! But Ben is. Jackson's birthday is in two days and Ben, being his best friend, is doing this whole surprise party at his place. So... we have to go. This is your chance to tell Jackson how you really feel about him," Vera explained but there was only one problem.

I was too big of a coward to actually to tell the boy that I have been in love with for four years , that I had feelings for him.

"Vera, you know me. As much as I would love to be as confident as you are, I'm not. I don't think I have the strength to actually go through with it."

"Did I mention the party requires all its guests to wear a mask over their eyes?" She looked at me knowingly.

A mask was a different story. It was like a safety blanket in case things went south.

"But I can't leave Sam right now, she needs me," I looked over at Sam who had been watching this conversation unfold.

She came over and hugged me.

"You deserve to have fun. I'll be okay, I promise." She sent me a smile to reassure me but she still worried me.

"Mom will be home in a few hours. Her and I need to talk some things out so it would be better if you weren't in the house. Go and have fun," She explained and she was right.

Mom hadn't really talked to Sam since finding out and I knew it hurt Sam to see how much things had changed.

"Alright, so it's settled. You're coming to the party tonight!" Vera happily exclaimed.

If only I had known then how the party would go.
