My not so little friend

What I saw was a cute, furry, huge dog! A Saint Bernard to be specific. He shuffled close to me and laid his head peacefully under my hand as if he wanted me to pet him. I then gently placed my hand upon his cheek and stroked him down his back. Now rethinking what I would use my money for. I now thought of food and water for both of us now and a blanket to keep us warm in the cold windy nights that lay ahead. He is now my responsibility, he's just like me after all. A misfit.

The sky began to darken and the sun sank behind the hills like a boat with a hole.
I crawled over to my bed and my dog jumped under my head. He then laid his fuzzy warm paw on my hand, drifting me into the lovely world of sleep.

I felt the warm sun hit my face that was then covered by a shadow. I slowly opened my eyes to find my wonderful furry friend licking my cheek. I started to stroke his cheek as he tilted his head to the sky. I said to him in a soft tone as I had just woken up " are we gonna spend some money today?". He took his head and pushed me up. We started to walk to my favorite corner store that I used to go to every day after school. We walked along the busy street, although there were hundreds of people I felt isolated like the spotlight was on me and everyone else was in the shadows.

We walked and walked and walked until... The shop! We made it! It felt like we had been walking for the whole day. But as I tilted my head up slightly I saw that we had. The sky was jet black with only the moon to keep the lovely velvet sky shining bright. The shop was just minutes from closing but the kind worker kept the store open just long enough for me to grab 5 bottles of water, a toothbrush, toothpaste, canned peaches, some blankets, and for my dog some canned dog food and treats. I headed over to the kind shop worker standing tall and looking confident but as I approached the counter I heard a loud bang followed by a scream.
