I decided to go back to that dark, alleyway of horrors, and broken dreams. As I sat by the disgusting dumpsters and questioned whether I was good enough, if I was then why am I here, and not in my warm calming home with the fireplace crackling, and my mother in the kitchen making hot cocoa for me and my father who is right by my side. There were so many things running through my mind at that very moment that it would take months to write down. I thought about how and if I would continue school, the only thing that was not crumbling like an old run-down building.
As I was pondering I noticed the light dimming, so I thought to myself "man up Elijah this is now your reality". I scavenged for anything to make this rough cold ground not so rough. To my convenience, there was an old mattress sitting beside one of the dumpsters. I nearly flung myself over to it. I pushed it over to find many stains, one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?
I had set up my "home". There was a stained mattress that I plan to sleep on. On either side, there were some cardboard boxes for my bedside tables. I slowly sat on my makeshift bed and laid my back down. My feet hung over the edge but it was better than nothing. The mattress was hard and stained, it was almost like sleeping in one of the dumpsters.
Ouch! I exclaimed. There was something stabbing me like a dagger, but where would that come from? I slowly lifted myself from the mattress and laid my feet onto the rocky ground. It was so dark, I almost tripped on an old dirty wire that laid on the ground looking almost like I was supposed to trip on it. I saw something like a sewing needle, but a rusty swirly one that had ripped a hole right through the red, I think ketchup, stain in nearly the middle of my "bed". I leaned over my rough sleeping place and grabbed that swirly metal and ripped it right out. It was a sharp, rusty, old spring! Poking me right in the back as I slept. Just my luck.
