Kicking the door down, I saw all of them look over at me as I pulled the trigger, shooting every single one of them and watching as they all fell forward the life leaving their eyes. My face remains neutral as I look out at their motionless forms holding the automatic machine gun in my hands.
“It’s clear!” I shout and step forward, the girls following behind me. As usual they go around and check the bodies for anything useful, weapons or tools. After the search I hear Jen scream in delight. I smile at her as she spins around in excitement.
“I love this! The rush! The excitement! And how you use that gun,” she was yelling, winking at me. Lydia and my cousin, Brittany, rolled their eyes at her in annoyance while I grinned at her. She came up and touched my arm. “Can I try the gun?” I pulled it away from her.
“How many times do I have to say no? It’s too dangerous.” My smirk was obvious. “Anyways, you don’t need this. You have your ‘magical powers’.”
“Yeah, but it seems like so much fun to use.” She pouted, and I leaned down gently kissing her forehead.
“Sorry babe, boss's orders. Only a trained professional can touch the weapons,” she sighed, but listened as usual.
“You’re so ridiculous Jen,” Britt stated, rolling her eyes again. “We’re in the middle of a war and all you can think about is the excitement of killing these bastards. Seriously?” Jen stuck her tongue out at her childishly.
“Someone has to make this fun, at least I’m not a bum like you. Why so serious? I think we’ve been serious for way too long… Trevor do us a favor. Pour some booze; I think celebration is in order!” I smiled at her before turning to the others for approval.
“Ok, fine. Get behind the bar coz.” I raced to the bar, putting my gun down, and jumped back there looking at all the arrangements of alcohol.
“What would you like?” I asked them.
“Surprise us,” Jen exclaimed and my grin widened. I picked up a couple bottles and mixed four drinks, sliding theirs over to them.
“A toast,” I began holding my glass in the air. “To the war. May the demonic bastards burn in the fiery pits of hell and us prevail in taking back our world.” We all downed them at the same time before laughing and pouring another round. Sometimes it’s fun to be a little reckless. What is life without celebration?
It has been a year… maybe more, since that first fateful battle on my packs’ territory. So far I believe the playing field is even between the rebel demons and us. My training into becoming Beta strengthened over time, especially with the stress of war. My father has made it more imperative, just in case something goes wrong. A lot has changed since last year. Like Claudia told me to, I informed everyone of what she told me. Her father listened well and her friends, who I know to be Devon, Lilith, Xavier, Elijah, and Isabel, have been staying with us since. Lucien, the man I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, still hasn’t returned. No one cared to look for him either, therefore all is well.
The rules on the wolves that we used to follow have been changed with history the moment Jason went to California and talked to Claudia’s mother. They made an allegiance with the witch covens and now we coexist differently. My relationship to Jen and Lydia is accepted. Which is new considering past relations… The war has created more unity than destruction. The alpha also announced about his daughter, Claudia, and his girlfriend or now fiancé, wife to be, Savannah, her mother. I remember when we found her, before dragging her all the way back to Montana to stay with our pack. She was still sad about Claudia, but hearing the news about her was helpful. Especially seeing the love of her life again. She was shocked of course, but they listened. With the help of Lilith on the convincing part.
Now we duel against these uncontrollable demons during the bloody apocalypse. Everyday can be your last.
