Lily's POV

James and I were preparing for the next day when we would go to Petunia's wedding when I received an owl holding a red envelope. It was the envelope everyone fears. It means someone's dead.
I scanned the letter. My eyes glazed with tears. My parents. The dark mark was spotted over my childhood home. Both my parents were found dead, by the killing curse. Luckily, Tuney had been out and was fine.
This news made me dread my sister's wedding even more, knowing she would blame me for their deaths.

The next day, James and I flooed to Hogsmeade before apparating to the wedding. Tuney was freaking out because she had no one to walk her down the aisle. I took a deep breath and approached her.
"Tuney?"
"Lily!"
"What's wrong?" I asked, even though I knew the answer.
"I just realized there's no one to walk me down the aisle and give me away! What am I gonna do?!"
"Umm... what about Vernon's father?"
"Vernon's father's died from a heart attack a few months back."
"Oh. Okay, do you have any close male friends?"
Tuney shook her head, silent tears running down her face.
"Tuney, why aren't you yelling at me for Mum and Dad being dead? I thought you thought it was my fault."
Tuney smiled at me, still crying. "Their deaths made me realize family needs to stick together." Tuney pulled me into a hug and I hugged her back. "Wait," she said.
"What?" I asked, nervously.
"You're not still friends with that Snape kid, are you?"
I giggled. "No. He called me a mudblood in fifth year and tried to kiss me in sixth. It was so gross, I nearly puked!"
Petunia laughed before cocking an eyebrow. "Mudblood? What does that mean?"
"It's a really foul name for a witch or wizard with muggle parents. Some wizards think muggleborns don't deserve to have magic. That's why there's a war."
"Well that's just cruel. It's not your fault you were born with magic. It's just the way it is."
I smiled. "Back to the matter at hand, who's going to walk you down the aisle? Does Vernon have a brother?"
"No, just a wretched sister named Marge. I pretend to like her, but she's probably the worst person on the planet."
"The worst muggle maybe. At least she's not a dark wizard named Voldemort, trying to kill off all muggles and muggleborns."
"Fair point. But this still doesn't solve the problem."
"Yeah. But are you sure you want to marry Vermin- I mean, Vernon?"
"Yes. I know you don't understand. At first I was just with him cuz he loved all things normal but then I got to know him and, deep down, he's a good guy. I hope you can accept that and support me."
     "I understand, Tuney."
"Thanks, Lils. But what are we gonna do?"
"Maybe you don't need someone to walk you down the aisle. You could walk yourself down the aisle. Like, a sign of Women independence!"
Petunia chuckled. "I guess you're right. I can do it myself!"
"That's the spirit! Now go get married!" I looked at what Petunia was wearing: a tee shirt and leggings. Her makeup was smudged and her hair was matted. "Oh, but first you might want to get ready."
