~Daring's POV~

I sat in my chair and patiently listened to my father talk to us an ask everyone questions, of course, most of them were for me, but I didn't mind. I answered what I thought were all of them, but he sprung an hextra one up on me, and of course it had to be the question that I've been avoiding.

"Daring, my boy, how is your relationship status?"

"Well, I, um...Its absolutely Charming of course! At the moment I'm dating..." I quickly said a random girl from school, "Apple White." Oh curses, out of all the girls, I had to choose Apple. Now he's probably going to say something about our story.

"Charming. Hexcited about your story, I see."

"Yes..of course."

"That's my boy. Dean, why can't you be like your brother here? He's got a wonderful girlfriend, he's perfect, and he know his fairytale future. Take a few pointers, or a thousand." He said, referring to Dexter.

"Sorry father." Dexter apologized while looking down.

"Well, um, actually, Dexter has been seeing a girl from-" Darling kicked me, hinting me to stop talking.

"What I meant to say was, he saw a girl in the hall and almost talked to her, but sadly he got nervous, and I, um had to help him out." I attempted to make a sly recovery.

"Tisk tisk. Wimpish and completely unprepared. Daring make sure to take your brother under your wing." He commanded me.

"As I always do, dad."

"Charming Family meeting dismissed. Everyone enjoy the next two hours of free time before the ball begins."

"Um, dad, can I ask you a question?" Dexter suddenly asked while everyone was getting up.

Dad mumbled a few things before speaking, "I suppose so. What is it?"

"Well, I was wondering what this homecoming ball is for. I mean, we didn't do that last year." He questioned.

"This ball is to support and show our dedication for the Legacy Year." How charming.. "Not that you have one anyways, Dexter."

"The one freaking time he gets my name right.." Dexter whispered to himself

"Ouch.."

"That's gotta sting.."

"Right, thanks for answering my question, dad."

"Refer to me as King Charming from now on." Dad told him right before leaving the room to go to his chambers.

I never knew how bad Dexter had it until now, dad just practically disowned him! I watched him as he trudged upstairs, Darling following behind. So much for this vacation being peaceful.

~Dexter's POV~

My heart and brain hurt so much right now. "Why am I such a disappointment to him? I don't understand, I couldn't help being born. It's not my fault that he couldn't-"

"Okay, Dexter, I'm gonna stop you right there. One, because you're awesome, and two, I don't need to hear that." Darling hexplained to me, cringing at the last part. "You're right, I'm sorry." I apologized as she went in for a hug.

"Dex, you're a great guy, you don't need dad's approval to know that. Stop letting Daring's perfectionism get into your brain! I love you just the way you are, with or without all your awkwardly, dorky, qualities, and I sure as hex know that any girl would be lucky to have you." Darling encouraged me while playfully nudging me in the arm.

She was right, I need to forget about trying to be perfect like Daring, and also find some way to get over the fact that my own father just practically disowned me. We finally reached the top of what seemed to be an endless staircase.

"Wanna hang out in my room? I brought plenty of comic books, or we can just talk." I asked, it's a regular thing that we like to do when situations like this happen.

Yeah, that's right. He said that to me before.

"Can a princess be her own rescuer?" She asked rhetorically. I laughed and invited her inside. She waltzed over to my comic book shelf and began flipping through a few of them before deciding on one that she liked, ironically it was called 'Princess Charming: Tales of a Warrior Princess' I looked at her with a goofy expression, I think she got the hint.

"What? It's like the best comic ever next to Wander Woman!" She playfully argued.

"Of course. My apologies, your Royal Highness." I teased.

"Whatever after, Dexterous Charming." She said imitating mom.

"Well played."

"Indeed." She said

We started reading and talked here and there for a bit. There was only half an hour until the ball began, but we were going to make the most of it.
