Walking through the hallway you watch the maids put an unlighted black veil over your mother's painting. You blank out for a second as a warm hand touches your shoulder. You turn back hoping to see your mother as if it was all a joke.
"Ah! " you let out a little sound comes out of your mouth not meaning to so you put your hand over your mouth. Your eyes widen to see your maid, Sally. She was old, wrinkled, still providing for her, her husband, and 6 children.
"It's alright miss, it's just me," Sally said in a melancholy voice. The poor soul was your mother's maid until she died of 'an unknown cause,' she was there when your mother passed.
"Your father would like to see you, ma'am." I could see the tears form from her eyes when she saw my mother's painting is covered by the deathly black veil. She shook her head almost shaking her bonnet off. You giggle as you meet her light, frosty blue eyes.
"You're very beautiful," you said looking at her deep into her eyes letting out a gasp of fresh air. "You don't deserve a life with this crazy family, no one does but my father." She sighs understanding that you know her pain.
"Thank you, ma'am, also speaking of father you better hurry and go see him," the maid called out surprised by the compliment.
You twirl around moving your black ballgown. You still have the white roses from the funeral in your hand. You place the flower down on a table in your bedroom. "No one touch this, please," you called out knowing a least one person heard
Making your way across the castle you take a deep breath before entering your father's study. "You wanted to see me, father?" The sound of him clearing his throat cut through the moment of silence. You looked up to see his red puffy eyes, he had been crying. "How can you have a smile on your face on a day like this Y/n!" he yelled in a sharp tone.
"At least one person this is happy in this godforsaken world!" you snapped back.
"No daughter of mine will speak to me like that! " he stood up pushing his chair down.
He swung around his desk raising his hand and hitting you, you looked into the desk mirror to see the red mark he left on your face. "This is why mom died.." you muttered, knowing she had been hit and died falling down the stairs crying because your dad hit her. The doctor's didn't want to get their heads chopped off and said it was an unknown illness.
He raised his hand again this time hitting you to the floor, and making you bleed slightly from your ear. "Learn your lesson or you'll be next!" you look at him with flames in your eyes, ready to hit back but you know you're his only child, a miracle. You stand up and walk out. Saying nothing you run back to your room to grab all your clothes and pack them into bags. Your eyes filled with tears you saddle up your horse and left, never turning back, knowing the journey ahead of you will be harsh, but better than this place you live in called your home.
