Kairi woke up the sun warming her delicate features. The birds chirped and sang their hearts out to one another. A sign of another day beginning, another day full of challenges. Giles wanted to check her leg today to see how it was doing. She quit using the crunch a few days ago trying to get adjusted back on using her leg. It still hurt but it was bearable. She wasn't going to let this injury hold her back.
Rising out of bed she found that Virion had already left. A soft smile found its way upon her lips. Grazing her fingertips were he laid with her, it was still warm. Getting up she slipped out of the gown and got herself dressed. She didn't like clothes, she grew up never having to cover herself. Levi always got angry at her for putting little effort into covering herself. She never cared though, it was difficult to find clothes that fit comfortably due to her tail.
She slipped on a white blouse that hangs loosely on her small frame, and a pair of shorts that had a gap in the back and a ribbon to tie around the base of her tail so they fit comfortably around her tail while still covering her. It made the shorts hug around her waist and the blouse nearly covered them. She knew it wasn't convenient for the colder weather but she wasn't planning on going outside either today and rather been comfortable than uncomfortable.
She took a glance in the mirror that hung on the wall and looked at the girl who stared back at her with the same violet almond eyes. Her body was still healing, and there was the nasty yellowing from the bruises that were fading. Her fingers traced every scar, she expected more of them to be prominent but must have faded away to mere scratches, barely noticeable now. Her long white hair fell to her waist in a mess. It always seemed to look unkept even though she tried to keep it brush. She decided to pull it back in a slouchy ponytail revealing the points of her ears.
She was in no way human looking, but it was enough to make hiding for her kind easier. Her legs covered in white scales, her feet arched unnaturally with the feet that were similar to dragons just much smaller and much more dainty looking. A knock on the door brought her back from her thoughts.
"Who is it?"
"Levi"
He opened the door, took a look at her and shook his head trying not to laugh, "At least make it look like you are wearing something under your shirt."
She gave him a glare, "You know I don't like clothes, especially close fitting ones."
"Sadly I do, I swear if it wasn't for me and Nina I don't think you ever get accustomed to wearing them," he joked but the mention of Nina's name made him go quiet.
"I miss her," Kairi's voice was barely a whisper when she spoke.
"I miss her too."
"It's my fault that she is gone," it was obvious now that Kairi was more than just sad, she had been blaming herself since then.
"No, it's not your fault," Levi tried to reassure her but to no avail it just made Kairi snap.
"Yes it is!" she shouted, "if you guys had never taken me in none of this would have ever happened, and Nina....Nina would still be alive dammit."
"We don't know that she is dead!" Levi's voice rose out of the fact he didn't want to think that his sister was dead. He wasn't ready to accept it, not without proof. He still wants to remember her warm smile, the looks she gave him as she lectured him.
Kairi's expression was that of pity and sorrow. She walked over to her friend and wrapped her arms around his neck holding him close. She could feel the coldness of the tears that started to spill over. He was hurting just as much as she was if not more. Nina was all Levi had left, and he didn't want to admit the sad truth that she was gone. She ran her finger through his messy chocolate waves, standing there in silence with him for what felt like hours.
