The Games

Effies POV
we just arrived at the tribute center and everyone was getting ready for bed. I walk to my room and soon enough everyone falls asleep. A few hours later I'm woken by nightmares. I've been having them ever since the reaping.
To my surprise Haymitch opens the door and calms me down.
"Shhh do you want to talk about it?" He asks quietly.
"I- it was Prim. She went to the games and was killed. I can't stop thinking about it" I say
"It's okay, just a dream. Goodnight" he says
Without thinking I grab his arm
"Stay with me" I say quickly
He looks at me confused. "Are you drunk or..."
"No I just don't want to wake up from nightmares again." I respond
He climbs into my bed and I sleep the rest of the night unbothered.
The next morning Katniss happens to be walking by as Haymitch leaves my room. Great now she suspects something. Quite honestly I think I love Haymitch but I'm too scared to say it.
We go to breakfast and Katniss looks at me with a smirk. "So, how did you two sleep" she asks
"Oh get over yourself" Haymitch responds
She just laughs. "Seriously are you...."
"No she was just having nightmares" he cuts her off
She and Peeta raise there eyebrows at me.
"You know your not the only ones" I say rolling my eyes annoyed.
We finish breakfast in peace. Katniss and Peeta go to training leaving me and Haymitch on our floor alone.
"Effie can I talk to you about something?" He asks
Great I know where this is going. "Sure"
"Okay I suck with words but I want you to know that I love you and always have loved you." He confesses
I just stare at him in disbelief. Did Haymitch Abernathy just confess his love for me??
I don't know what to say so I just leans is and connect my lips with his. When we part I say
"I love you too Abernathy"
A few hours later at dinner I sit next to Haymitch hand in hand. Katniss and Peeta look at us and wait to see if we say anything.
"Okay I'm done waiting WHAT is going on over here. You don't think I can see you two holding hands?" she says
"Did ya do the math sweetheart?" Says Haymitch jokingly.
"WAIT REALLY!" She squeals
"no shit" responds Haymitch under his breath.
Katniss looks at him and makes the most dramatic face possible "MANNERS HAYMITCH" she says trying to do her best capitol accent.
The next few days go by quickly and before I know it we are saying goodbye. I go to say goodbye but burst into tears not being able to get a word out.

Haymitch and I are sitting in the living room watching the games.
I go to put my pjs on and them come back out with no make up on I even take off my wig.
"Well would you look at that. She's taken off the costume." Haymitch says sarcastically
I roll my eyes and snuggle up with him on the couch.
"You have to keep them alive Haymitch" I tell him
"Don't worry sweetheart heart I will" he says softly.
