I grab the picnic basket from the tall cabinet and open the wicker top. I go into the fridge, grabbing a small container of strawberries and with the other hand, pulling out a small sandwich in a snack bag. I place those into the basket along with some crackers and water. I open a drawer and pull out a candle and matches. I drop those in, close the basket, and walk out the backdoor. As I step onto the fresh grass, I take in the glory of this beautiful day. After a minute of just enjoying the view, I start walking through the small forest outside my house.
As I continued through the dim lit woods, I hear rustling of bushes and trees. But I try to just ignore the sound and hope that its just the wind or a forest mouse. But the deeper into the woods I grow, the louder the sounds become, until I hear clomping footsteps following behind me. I speed up my pace until I'm starting to run. The footsteps are coming close and as I try to hide I trip over a mossy branch and stumble to the ground. I struggle to stand but I stumbled again. The creature is now right behind me and I'm paralyzed in fear. I guess this is my fate. I sigh and flip around onto my back to face the animal that will be my downfall. But, I see the beloved bear, Smokey. I slightly laugh at my stupidity and he extends his paw and I take it and stand up.
"Sorry I ran, I thought you were trying to kill me" I laugh, brushing myself off. But he stays silent, his beady eyes a void of nothingness.
"So what are you doing out here?" I ask
"I could ask you the same thing" he mutters in a deep, grizzly voice
"Oh I'm just going for a picnic" I smile, showing him the basket in my hand. He glares at the satchel and then grabs it out of my hand
"Hey give that back!" I yell, trying to grab the bag back
"I can never trust scum teenagers like you in my forest" he spits at me. I'm still trying to get the basket but he rips off the lid and tosses it aside, peering into the box. He throws the contents of my lunch out onto the forest floor. I angrily grab at Smokey's fur but he shrugs me off and pushes me aside. He finishes rifling through the basket and turn toward me, holding the box of matches that I brought along. His eyes now have emotion. Fiery emotion. He walks toward me and shoves me against a tree
"What are these for" he growls, pushing against my chest harder
"You saw the candle I brought along, it was for a picnic" I gasp, his paw slithering to my throat.
"That's what they all say..." he bellowed. He threw the matches onto the floor and uses his now free hand to take of his hat and pull out a long, black rope. In my shocked state I'm unable to move as he wraps the rope around me and the tree. I cry out, feeling the scratchy rope against my neck and squirm against the tree.
"PLEASE SMOKEY ITS NOT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE" I yell, watching him pick the matches up off the floor.
"It's too late, It's my job to get ride of people like you" he stated, striking the match. I feel my breath grow fast and I struggle against the ropes more.
"IM BEGGING YOU DONT DO THIS" I scream as he lights the match. A smirk grows across his face and he brings the fire to the base of the tree.
"Good luck" he chuckles evils and then throws the match onto the ground. I scream and beg but he stands back. Watching the flame travel up the sparking ropes and the tree. I feel my legs growing blisters and I cry out in pain. But he just laughs as the fire reaches my neck. I cough and yell but my screams are useless as Smokey disappears, leaving me stuck and dying. The fire travels throughout the forest and eventually engulfs the whole woods."Another job well done" Smokey tells himself, fixing his hat, and returning to the shadows
