"Sadie, Marie! Are you guys ready to go yet?" I hear my mom yell from the living room,
"Almost!" Marie and I yell at the same time. We look at each other and laugh, then continue to pack our camping gear. My mom is going to sea glass festival and so while she's gone, our dad is taking us camping. I through in some extra batteries and then zip up my lightly packed bag. Marie on the other hand, is stomping and punching her bag in order to close the overstuffed suitcase. I place my bag outside of my room, then go over to help Marie. She is sitting on it now, trying to squish it down.
"Get off!" I exclaim, pushing her over and opening the box to  look at all the clothes and shoes practically crawling out of the bag.
"why you need 4 different bathing suits? And 3 pairs of shoes?" I ask, pulling out all of the useless items and then easily zipping up the top. Marie is still sitting on the ground,
"I dont know, you never know who you'll meet" she shrugs, standing up. I scoff and help her up.
I walk out the room and she follows close behind, with her luggage in hand. I grab mine and then walk into the family room, where I see my dad, standing with his backpack in hand, and my mom, wearing a large sun hat and holding a suitcase.
"I'm going to go help mom load up the car" my dad says, taking the bag from my moms hand and heading out the front door. My mother walks over to hug us tightly,
"Oh, I'll just miss you girls so much" she blubbered, holding us tighter
"Mom, I'll miss you too, but I can't really breathe" Marie gasps out. Mom finally lets us go, and I can see her eyes start to water.
"It's only one night" I say, walking across the room and out the door. Marie and mom stroll out behind me, locking the door as they leave. We hug our mom once more before handing our bags to dad and getting in the car. I lay my head down on the seat and watch as we pull out of the driveway and our grows becomes smaller and smaller the farther we drive.

I open my eyes to the sound of my sister telling me to wake up. I rub my face and yawn, looking around through the window to see we are at the camp grounds. I quickly open the door to stretch my legs and take a deep breath. My dad has already started setting up the tent so I go over to help him. After 20 minutes of wrong pieces and getting trapped under tarp, we had our tent up and ready. It was already about six so while my dad started making Spaghetti-Os, I went to go explore before it got dark. I ran throughout the woods until I found the small lake nearby. I sat against the water, watching the ripples as I skipped rocks. Suddenly a reflection appeared in the water and I ripped around.
"Smokey," I say unsurely, "what are you doing here?"
"Fire patrol" he grunted. I nod and we stand there in awkward silence until his face grows angry. I hear a low growl from is thought and gulp
"Are you alright?" I ask, a worried look growing on my face
"What's that in your pocket?" He snarled. I reach into my left pocket and pull out a small lighter.
"Oh, my family and I were gonna have a small fire and makes s'mores" I explain. I'm about to put it back into my pocket but he grabs my wrist and pulls the lighter out of my hand.
"A fire you say" he hissed, still holding my wrist, he slowly backed me up until I felt a splash of water graze my heel.
"I- it was just gonna be a-a small, controlled, c-campfire" I stutter, struggling against his paw.
"Awe, now you see, I hate excuses" he chuckled, moving me closer to the water.
"Smokey, what are you talking about" I ask
"I will not let another stupid child start a fire in my forest" he argued. I tried to speak but his other hand clamped over my mouth. I thought fast and bit his hand. But he barely flinched, he just kicked my in the knees, causing my to crumple to the ground. He quickly removed his hat from his head and pulled out a rope. He bent down to wear I was laying and tied it to my ankles. Then he pulled out an large metal ball
You've got to be kidding me I thought
He tied the other end of the rope and dropped it on the ground with a thump. He picked me up and just laughed. He used one hand to hold me by my throat and with the other hand he held the metal ball. His hand grasped my throat harder as he threw the ball deep into the lake. I could feel my legs being pulled towards the lake but Smokey was strong.
"This will teach you to bring lighters into my woods" he growled. I choked and scratched at his paw but he simply let go of me and watched as I got dragged towards the lake. I clawed at the dirt but it was no use. I took one last deep breath as I was submerged into the murky green water. I was sinking closer to the bottom but I couldn't die like this. I wouldn't die like this. I reached towards the knot and struggled to untie it. I was loosing breath and this knot was tighter than ever. When I float to the bottom, I see loads of trash, especially old bottles. I grab one and crush it against a rock. I use the now broken piece to saw at my rope. I'm getting light headed but the rope breaks and I swim to the surface. I take a gasping breath and run back to my family to warn them. As I'm running through the forest I hear a growl.
"How'd you survive?" I hear Smokey bello. I ignore him and continue running. When I reach the campsite I see my dad with a worried look on his face.
"Where have you been? And why are you dripping wet?" He questions.
"There's no time, but we need to leave" I say, taking deep breaths.
"Why?" He asks. My sister can tell something is wrong so she starts grabbing stuff.
"Come on dad, something is clearly wrong" Marie begged.
"Fine, but there better be an explanation in the car" he sighed. I nodded and helped pack up stuff. We were loading the car when Smokey came running through the trees.
"You thought you could get away, huh" he chuckled. He grabbed at me but I yelled for us to get into the car. My family jumped in while I threw rocks. Finally I heard the engine and I quickly got in. We saw Smokey running behind us but once we hit the freeway, he was long gone.
"What was that about?" My dad ordered.
"Well..."
