I awoke from my sleep very startled. There was a loud noise that didn't stop, and it wasn't my alarm clock. BEEP BEEP BEEP! The noise kept ringing in my head. I got up, and smelled smoke. I screamed so loud that the roof almost blew off of the apartment. Chester! I had to go save my baby. I flew down the slippery stairs and grabbed Chester. Then I ran out the door. The fire department was already on the scene, and I wondered what was going to happen. Chester let out a loud squeak. I could tell that he was scared. I watched my apartment building get swallowed by blazing orange flames and I started to cry. I can't believe this is happening. I snuggled Chester to my shoulder as the fire Marshall made his way over to me. "I'm really sorry about your apartment , but the American Red Cross is going to provide you with a home until another housing unit is built," he said with a tired voice. There was now about 17 firefighters in the driveway, and with Chester, I walked into the city to let everything sink in.
