"i told you," thirdy said as he continued to caress bea's head who was leaning on him, both were sitting on bea's sofa."i know, i know." bea sniffled harder, "but you don't have to rub even more salt to my wound."
thirdy just shook his head, "kawawa naman best friend ko."
bea just kept quiet, snuggling further towards thirdy's undoubtedly manly and broad chest.
she couldn't help but close her eyes, taking in thirdy's scent; a musky mix of wood and his signature thirdy-exclusive scent.
she smiled unconsciously. thirdy always smelled like home to her. always.
"are you done crying now?" he asked her softly, not even stopping the caresses he's been giving for a second.
bea just sniffled in response but decided wrap her long arms around his torso.
"koala ka girl?"
"dami mong satsat, as if ayaw mo na ganito ako ha."
thirdy just laughed at her retort, he would be lying if he said his heart wasn't breaking for his best friend.
his bestfriend who he's been in love with for the past 5 years.
"'wag mo na kasi balikan kapag paulit-ulit kang ginagago at binibitawan." thirdy said after a long pause.
"alam ko naman, pero ang hirap eh. kapag mahal mo, ayaw mong bitawan ng basta basta lang."
thirdy smiled sadly at her reply, "kaya pala hindi kita kayang bitawan 'no?"
bea just went silent, of course she knew. she knew ever since thirdy bared his heart out to her a year ago.
he was drunk, she wasn't. and he suddenly wailed about his feelings to her.
she thought he was kidding, turns out he was serious. she couldn't grasp it at first, couldn't believe that her own best friend had feelings for her.
but thirdy.. he made sure to never make her uncomfortable. and he did just that.
throughout the years, bea has had a few flings and two boyfriends but thirdy.. thirdy was always there despite that.
she knows he's had a bunch of flings under his belt but he always, always goes back to her.
she's not any different though, she realized.
she always, always goes back to him, too.
bea bit her lip. come to think of it, thirdy always had a special place in her heart.
"huy, naano ka na diyan?" she was snapped out of her trail of thoughts by thirdy's voice.
"why didn't we date?" she suddenly blurted out.
thirdy was frozen in his place. a pregnant pause hanging in the air.
"what?"
"why didn't we date?"
thirdy was still silent, why was she asking him?
"why didn't we?" this time, she turned around to look at him as she asked the question.
a few more moments before thirdy was able to compose himself.
he looked at her before taking her hand in his."
"i told you," he started, "we should have tried."
this made bea smile as his eyes trailed their entwined hands until her eyes met his.
and if looks could melt, she was probably a muddle of melted ice cream right now.
she leaned closer to look him in the eye better.
"we should try now, then."
