They were adorable, each and everyone of them.
The special needs kids were all playing hide and go seek. You may be thinking, they have special needs, how can they do that?
Their smart. Talented. Plus, they can make it through life knowing it's just fine being who they are.
"I'm kinda glad that Mr. Firchman gave us this for community help." Cole shrugs making his black jacket crinkle up for a second or two.
Ali looked at him. She'd never seen this side of Cole. Even though they had been together for about a year, they both hadn't spoken that much.
"I love these kids.. I try and help the ESE program at our school all the time.. Their extraordinary." Ali replied letting him think about this. The concrete sidewalk talking to her as they walk along. Its scratching and scraping against her converse.
Cole looks somewhat uncomfortable yet, he looks happy all the same. Was it because of her? No, it couldn't possibly be.. Never. No more. It ended. Over with...
"Ali!!" A little blonde pig-tailed toddler started to run at a slow pace towards her.
It was Cindy, the cute little autistic child. Cindy would come over to her house about every other month to bring cookies. We would do the same favor in a week. Always in a week.
"Hello, Little Cindy!" Ali squatted down and opened her arms to let the little girl fly into her with a heart warming hug.
Cole chuckled from behind her. Not in a mean way, but in a Thats-kinda-sweet way.
"I drew a whittle painting of youuu!!" Cindy spun out of her arms and started dancing around on the sidewalk like a ballerina.
"You did now? Can I see it?" Ali smiled and started walking along with Cindy as she skipped and Cole trudging along behind her.
Cindy nodded her head frantically, smiling like the guy with his head stuck in the door of the movie, The Shining. Oh what a movie..
"I looks perty!" She bounces in her heels running to a park bench with folded up papers on it.
"It must be since it's coming from you." Cole tries his best smile coming up beside Ali. He never really got along with little kids... What changed?
Cindy must have warmed his heart...
I wonder what else he'll do now that we have to do this for a month, Ali thought shaking her head with a frown.
"See!" flashes around the drawing she drew for her.
Finally, Cindy stopped waving it around just enough for her to catch a glimpse of the picture.
In the picture was green blotches of bushes, tall blobs for trees, and in the center of the somewhat visual drawing, was Cindy and her with a puppy. She had no clue who's puppy it was, probably an old dog that once belonged to Cindy.
"Oh, I love it!" Ali cheered with glee and picked up the little girl. She couldn't weigh any more than 50 pounds.
"I'm so happy!" Cindy smiled her crooked toothed grin. It was absolutely adorable.
"Me too kid, me too." Ali kissed her forehead and let her down so she could go run off back to the park.
"Well, she's a bundle of joy." Cole laughed and put his hands back into his jacket pockets.
"Oh, you haven't even seen her on a sugar high..." Ali burst into a fit of giggles remembering that day she had given Cindy a Jolly Rancher packet.
Cindy's mother had called her the evening after she had left school to tell her about the incident.
Apparently, Cindy had gone into full sugar mode flipping chairs over and screaming around the house.
She would never buy that candy for her again.
Ali had learned her lesson...
Had he? Why was he even here. He could always just walk out on her like he used to do.
It's not like she was anything special. Jasaline always yelled at her for saying that, and somehow when they were together, she knew when she was thinking it.
"So, what do we do here, 'cos I'd love to get out of here." Cole interrupted her train of thoughts with a smash.
Poof, there went the cool and collected nice guy. Right out the window. Bye bye..
"Well, if you weren't so uptight and cranky, you'd learn that were taking the kids to get ice cream, except Cindy, she gets watermelon." Ali waved around her hands explaining the situation to him.
"Okay then Ms. Buttnugget, I'd like to get Ice cream for them." He retorted back to her.
Ali rolled her eyes, maybe they'd finally start to become better friends. Just maybe...
