Beginings

The begin of a story is the most important part as it entices the reader to continue through the story. If this is the case where should I start mine?

My name is Hanna and at this time I am 16 years old. My hobbies include writing, listening to music and drawing. It doesn't sound very interesting which completely contradicts my earlier statement but I'm pretty much your average girl. I wouldn't say I'm particularly happy about being average but there's nothing I can really do about it, and yet despite my normality something very different happened to me. Now that's a hook for a story!

My average life is playing out as normal as ever. I have just endured a hard day at school and am now sitting down in front of my diary to write about crushes, enemies, friends, schoolwork and dream scenarios. I finish my last sentence, closed the book and placed it back in my desk draw for safe keeping. 'Is today gonna be another one of those days where I sit around doing nothing? I'm already bored and I've only just finished what I was doing' I think to myself. Then I get a notification, 'This better be something important' and lucky for me it is.
Dream is live
My fingers move like lightning in opening Twitch and I am greeted with familiar visuals. I lay on my bed and get lost in the stream, often getting messages from my friend Ava as running commentary as she is unable to contain her excitement. Without warning my phone flys from my hands into my face as a large round object hits my arms with some force. The ball rolls towards my door and is stoped by the trainer of my older brother. He's stood in the doorway dressed in a blue soccer kit, his fringe stuck to his forehead with sweat. "Think fast" he laughed. 'Why is it I can never watch a Dream stream in private?' I scramble up from my bed and slam the door; there isn't much I can do other than that.

While I'm mentioning it I might as well describe my family. Lucas, My big brother, is 17 and loves soccer, he'll probably go out again in 10 minutes to play more. He's rather ordinary as siblings go, he bullies me a lot like most brothers do to their little sister and I retaliate in my own little way when I can, like blaming him for eating the last slice of cake. Next my Mom, she's definitely the head of the house and shows it when she can. She works for 'Hive. Inc' which is a large corporation centred around organising government property, I don't really understand it and she doesn't really explain it but perhaps it's all for the better as it doesn't sound like a job that would interest me. Because of her dedication to work she has to fly out across states for formal discussions which is were both my parents are right now. My dad is my moms secretary and as funny as that sounds he actually has to do a lot of hard work. After losing his job my mom hired him as a secretary and he's been crunching numbers ever since. They both spent a lot of time with us growing up but now that we're older they can afford leaving us on our own for a few weeks while they sort out their business.

I return to my bed and pick up my phone, but something is wrong. The screen is black. I clench my fist, 'is my phone broken?' Then a message popped up from Ava.
"DID YOU SEE THAT??"
'Oh great, something important happens and Dream ends his stream right when I was distracted by my annoying brother!'
"I missed it" I type back, "what happened???"
"How??? I'm really worried for Dream"
"What happened???????"
"There was a loud noise, then Dream's Minecraft player stopped moving, then his stream went black!"
'A loud noise... If it wasn't for that I'd just think his internet went out but the loud noise is concerning... Why did this have to happen right when I was watching!' I compose myself and tell Ava that there's probably nothing to worry about. I go to look back over the vod but it was deleted before I could get there. I also had a new Twitch notification. "What??!" I exasperate. A message I had sent in dreams chat had been removed 5 minutes ago, 'but I never sent a message in Dreams chat. Unless the phone flying from my hands caused a message to send. This is turning out to be the worst day ever.' I lay back on my bed and stare at my ceiling. I hear my brother leave to play more soccer and I decide to put this negative energy to good use, I get out a notebook and pencil and begin to write. Recently I've been reading Vampire stories so I start with that and maybe I'll combine the Dream Team. As I write I, time slips away from me and the natural light from outside begins to dim, it's only at this point I realised how long I was writing for. 'Wow, I really got carried away' I think to myself while sweeping the flaked pieces of eraser off the book from my copious mistakes. Food sounds real good to me right now so I make my way down stairs and look in all the cupboards, we have plenty of food but nothing that I'm really craving so I continue to scour the kitchen. It was at this point another unexpected thing happened. There was a thunderous banging at the front door. The noise startled me so much I almost jump under the counter, but then my logical brain realises Lucas is still outside and probably left his key in here locking himself out. I take my time walking to the door but as soon as I unlock it a figure barges through and makes a dash for the kitchen. "Next time I'm leaving you out there!!" I yell to my brother. 'Or was it my brother? The figure was wearing green and Lucas' kit is blue. The figure also seemed a little taller than him too.' I slowly make my way to the kitchen and when I look in I see a man wearing a green hoodie with his head in one of the cupboards looking around for something, he pulls out a paper plate and beings doodling on it. 'Should I shout at him to leave or go get my brother.' Full of indecision I stare at the man before deciding to back away slowly, accidentally hitting the coffee table in the process like the majestic swan I am. The man swiped up the paper plate and jabbed holes in it before holding it to his face and turning around. It was a smiley face he had draw and poked holes for the eyes. His dirty blond hair stuck out over the mask. 'This guy kinda looks-'
"Hey, I know this is weird but I can explain everything"
'No way' I think to myself physically unable to speak.
"Uuuuh- listen, I really need a place to stay but I can leave if you'd prefer me to because I know how weird this seems."
'I'd recognise that voice anywhere.' I force my mouth to make sound, "uuuh- yeah," my voice is almost invisible. He makes his way to the door. I clear my throat, "I mean you can stay."
"Really?"
"Yeah... if you want."
He extends his arm, "my name's Clay."
"Uuh yeah, I think I know" I say shaking it.
