For just an hour or two
I look forward to spending
part of my day with you

For just an hour and a half
I'm gifted chances
To hear you laugh

And your sweater
that you wear each day
I'd like to try it on,
if I may?

Your hair's gotten long.
Mind if I braid it for you?
You can say no,
I'm okay with that too.

This poem means nothing,
I just want some love.
Something that feels right,
that fits like a glove.

I'll cover up my feelings:
The way that I yearn
Distract myself from my thoughts,
perhaps go buy another fern.

And if, for some strange reason,
that strategy doesn't work,
I'll light my favorite candle
And watch the fire burn

Maybe I'll spray some perfume,
Paint an orange cut in half,
Make some coffee, warm some tea,
Maybe draw a bath

I'll spend all my time
Avoiding thinking of you.
Because if I stop for just a moment,
it'll be all that I do.
