CHAPTER SIXTEEN:
Day To Forget

TARA HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO ASK CEDRIC DIGGORY TO THE YULE BALL ALL WEEK, BUT WITH NO LUCK. She knew that almost every girl in the school would want to go with Cedric Diggory, but she was hopeful that her feelings towards him weren't one sided, and that maybe she'd be the lucky one that would get to go with the Hufflepuff Champion.

Tara felt butterflies in her stomach when Cedric smiled at her as she sat down next to him for their potions lesson. The events from the First Task replaying in her head as she thought about asking him to the ball.

"Hello Tara," Cedric said cheerfully, immediately bringing a radiant smile to the girl's face.

"Hi Cedric, are you alright after the First Task?" Tara asked, only to notice Snape dramatically stalk into the classroom, not giving an opportunity for Cedric to reply.

"Silence!" Snape ordered as he swiftly waved his wand, causing a small cauldron to appear on each desk, the contents were unknown to Tara.

"Today, you will need complete concentration, I understand this will be a challenge for most of you. You will all be attempting to brew what some say is one of the most dangerous potions known," Snape drawled, his eyes narrowed as he looked at Tara, she looked away, embarrassed as she remembered how her potion exploded in previous lessons. Naturally, Cedric had made her feel much better about the situation.

"Mr Diggory, would you be able to tell me what potion is in front of you?" Snape snarled after noticing that the boy had been too busy looking at Tara to listen to what had been said.

"Uh, yeah, is it Amortentia?" Cedric asked after briefly examining the pink liquid.

"Correct, and what is it's purpose?" Snape drawled, narrowing his eyes at Cedric who gulped under the Professor's intense glare.

"It simulates love, or obsession really. It smells different to each person based on who they like or love," Cedric answered, glancing over at Tara.

"Correct. Enlighten me, what do you smell Mr Diggory?" Snape continued, clearly irritated that Cedric was answering correctly. Cedric lowered his nose toward the cauldron, taking a deep breath in.

"I smell smoke, pumpkin spice, and-" Cedric started, having another sniff of the potion. "Apple pie," he finished, knowing immediately that he had smelled Tara, but she was too busy trying to work out what she personally smelled to pay attention to what Cedric had said.
