“Your house is huge, Avril!” Faith looked around the front hall and was flabbergasted. “We should hold our sleepovers at your house from now on.”
“That’s the main reason I don’t like people coming over my house,” Avril commented. She closed the door behind Faith and walked her into the living room. “Everyone expects me to hold the parties from here on out.”
“Well, we all barely fit in Crystal’s.” Faith shrugged her shoulders and threw everything she brought on the ground. “Her room is barley big enough for one person, let alone all of us.”
“Which is why some of us sleep on the floor or in the hall.” Avril shrugged her shoulders and switched the TV on. “Do you know when everyone else is getting here?”
“No.” Faith shrugged her shoulders and sat on a couch. “This is where I’m sleeping.” She pressed the recline button and fell back. “I think they feel weird about having a sleepover. You guys are eighteen, Kriey’s nineteen, and I’m seventeen. Plus, Crystal’s mom was worrying about Kriey since she’s not going to college. She doesn’t deem her as a good role model.”
“She doesn’t deem anyone as a good role model.”
"Yeah, I bet if Crystal wasn’t her kid she would be the opposite.”
“Probably.” When Avril heard the doorbell ring, she shot out of her seat and went for it. She listened to Miranda and Suzie’s oohs and awes and then they went for the living room again. “Faith’s here.”
They all briefly said hi and Miranda and Suzie claimed their spots too. Avril rolled her eyes and went to the kitchen to grab some snacks and sodas. She instantly remembered to take a water and healthy snacks for Kriey.
When she brought them out, she saw that Joy and Crystal had also arrived. Puzzled, Avril placed the things on the table and stood with her arms on her hips.
“I snuck out.”
“Great,” Avril said sarcastically. She knew that Crystal probably wouldn’t be allowed permission to come but she still hoped that she would find a way to convince her mom. “Anyway, I didn’t hear the door ring.”
“I forgot something in Miranda’s car and while I was out there they arrived.” Suzie smiled at Avril and quieted down when the last ring of the night sounded. “You could get this one, though.”
Avril nodded her head and dropped her soda can into Faith’s lap. Avril scurried out of the room and helped Kriey bring her things in. She had way more than everyone else had packed and it seemed like she was going to stay there for a week.
When they arrived in the other room, someone had decided it would be fun to bring a twister mat along. Suzie and Faith were currently going at it, even though Suzie usually won. Avril smiled as Faith stepped onto Suzie’s foot, which resulted in them both crashing onto the floor.
“You guys want to play messy twister?” Avril asked.
“What’s that?”
“You put blue paint on the blue circles, yellow on yellow, like that.” Everyone nodded their head and Avril grabbed some paint buckets. “You know I have a twister mat, so you didn’t need to bring this.”
In order not to mix up anyone, Avril looked at them all and started dunking the paint onto it. She winced as some paint got onto the carpet and knew that her parents were going to be mad when they saw the mess in the morning if she didn’t clean it up.
“Who’s going first?”
“I am.” Everyone was surprised that Kriey had volunteered. She had been AWOL all summer. Kriey quickly cracked her fingers and her neck. “Suzie, you’re up.”
