"I'm sorry." Is the first thing that Oliver says when Josh returns to his office. There is a bright red handprint on his face, which tells Joshua that Karima definitely slapped him.
"I see Karima...talked to you." Josh comments, trying not to smile and failing. The handprint looks like it hurts, and he can't help but feel like Oliver deserves it.
Oliver smiles back, surprisingly. "She gave me hell, that's for sure." He studies Josh's face, his smile disappearing. "You've been crying." He states. It isn't a question, more of an observation.
Josh looks down, "It's fine." He mutters. It's an improvised lie, and a bad one. He knows it isn't believable, but Karima has already made Oli feel guilty enough. Josh doesn't think that he needs to contribute to it.
Oliver takes his glasses off, stands up, and walks around his desk to stand face to face with Joshua. "No, it's not." He says softly, reaching a hand up to cup Josh's face, brushing his thumb across his cheek, "I'm so sorry, Josh." The gesture is tender, caring, and it makes Josh feel weak at the knees.
Josh can't stop himself from looking up and meeting Oliver's eyes. "It's okay, I'm okay." He lies, but his lower lip trembles and he knows that he has given himself away with another unconvincing lie.
"You don't have to lie." Oliver's face is dizzyingly close to his, and it is making it difficult for Josh to think clearly. "I'd rather you just be honest with me."
Josh thinks about that for a second, deciding that he might as well tell the truth since Oliver seems to know it anyway. "You hurt me." He whispers, "You can't just ask me on a date and then shut me out without a reason."
Oliver nods, "I'm sorry." He says, "I'm afraid."
Josh blinks, confused. Why would Oliver be afraid? Josh can't seem to figure out what would scare him about this situation, as complicated as it is. "Afraid? Afraid of what?"
"Being vulnerable." Oliver says, "But you're vulnerable with me and I owe you the same."
"You don't owe me-" Josh starts to say, but then Oliver's lips are pressed against his and any coherent thoughts that Josh may have had have gone flying out of the window.
Josh's arms go around Oliver automatically as he kisses back, losing himself in the sensation of kissing his boss. Kissing his boss. He isn't all too certain how he got here, standing in his boss' office and kissing him desperately, but he finds that he really doesn't mind it. In fact, he is very much enjoying it.
They break apart, foreheads resting together as they gasp for air. Josh's mind feels cloudy and distant, like he can't think clearly. Which he can't, because kissing Oliver is extremely distracting. And fun.
"Okay, wow." Josh breathes, unable to formulate any other words in the moment.
Oliver grins, "What were you gonna say?"
"What?"
"You said that I don't owe you..." Oliver trails off, waiting for Josh to finish the sentence for him.
Josh smiles, "I was gonna say that you don't owe me anything, but I'm thinking that you owe me dinner." He teases, "And if you're nice, I'll make Karima apologize for slapping you. I'll even kiss it better."
"She kicked me in the dick, will you kiss that better too?"
"Don't push your luck." Josh replies, though he is sure that it's true that Karima kicked him in the crotch. He wouldn't put it past her, she had seemed extremely angry.
"Aww, you two are so cute." Karima's voice causes them both to turn and look at the doorway where she is standing. "So glad that my violent temper brought you together."
