TW: guns, death, minor angst
His shaky breath rattled his lungs and shook him down to the core. Quivering hands held a loaded pistol, cocked and ready for fire. His sweaty hands clenched the weapon like it was life support. Next to him, stood a younger girl. Bitter tears trailed down her delicate face, expression twisted into unbearable rage and sorrow. The air around them was still. A leak in the moldy ceiling had formed a small puddle on the ground below.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
Drip.
"I hate you." he whispered. There were angry tears building up in his eyes as his shaking hands pointed the pistol at the figure on the floor. The girl's breath hitched, half-smothered sobs quietly spilling out of her mouth. The shrunken figure weakly slumped themselves up against the ruined wall, flecks of wilting wallpaper floating down as soon as he made contact.
"What'cha gonna do about it?" they snickered, despite the fact that the two heroes had them cornered. They could turn themselves in, but that wouldn't be a satisfactory ending for them. The villain could easily turn themselves in, serve a life sentence and die peacefully. But no, that would bring them years of boredom and regret. They wanted to see the heroes squirm one last time, even if it meant their death.
"You're going to be in tremendous pain" they started, straightening up against the wall. "Even if you kill me, I will still have won. If you kill me, my actions won't fade away. Your precious friend will still be gone. I will still have cut their life short, and I will still have the pleasure of seeing you in agony for many, many years to come."
"Shut. up." the girl said.
"You know i'm right. You could've saved them, but you were too slow!"
"SHUT UP!!"
"Maybe if you'd gotten in here faster, she would still be with yo-"
"SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP!!"
"Shut up? Lucky for you, your little corpse friend won't be doing any talking anymore, so that's not something you should really be worrying about!" the villain sneered.
Bang.
The villain slumped coldly against the floor.
The last droplet of dirty water fell, just as the last beat of the villain's heart went forever silent.
The girl stood above him, pistol in hand, breath shallow. Her whole body shivered violently.
The boy lay on the ground some meters away. In the blink of an eye, she had grabbed his pistol and put a bullet right through the villain's skull.
---
The police had arrived a time later. The girl was found sobbing in a different room, and the boy- well, he was unconscious in the same spot, unharmed. Evidence suggested that someone had activated the stomach 9-point on him, which was a pressure point able to knock someone out. After the girl was able to clam down, she spoke to the chief of police and informed them that she was the one to knock out her accomplice. The accident at the site - a small warehouse with a very elaborate basement - was regarded as one of the more famous crime sites there.
The girl, of course, was sent to jail for assaulting a hero and an accomplice, as well as murder charges. During the course of a few months, she became very depressed and mentally affected by the death of her friend and the murder she had committed. She was sent to a mental hospital to recover, but was never quite the same. One night she was reported for escaping her room, but was never found. She was reported dead after two months.
After a few months, the boy disappeared too.
