Chapter Twenty Seven - Nightmare

Darkness gloomed over the twilight night as there was not a single cloud at sight.

Anxiousness filled the castle walls as the materials used for later on in the night was brought into the birthing room chamber.

Jaehyun sat on the bed next to Ri's pain-stricken form while his fingers entangled into her soft hair as he tried to soothe the discomfort away.

"My lord, the birthing room is prepared, I believe the time has come!" Said Jisoo with a handful of female attendants following after her.

"I see." Said the emperor softly as he withdrew his hands from her body and attempted to sit up.

But Ri grabbed his wrist pulling him back as their fingers interlocked sentimentality.

"Please, do not go, please stay with me!" Ri pleaded as she squeezed his wrist tightly.

"No, I can not! Sadly men are prohibited to enter the birthing room. It is tradition, my dear! Not even I can go against it!" Jaehyun muttered as his face was inches away from hers.

"Please!" Ri begged as she looked up and gazed into his emotion-filled eyes.

"Do not make this harder on me, it takes courage and self-control to be able to resist the urge of longing. I wish with all my might that I could stay by your side, and watch the moments of our child gracing the earth. I would even break the doors and cause a ruckus if I had to but that will only cause more distress to you and our unborn child. So do not test me, now go so I could abide by rules and restrain myself!" Uttered the emperor as he cupped her pretty face with his free hand while their foreheads rest against each other while they shared this sweet moment together.

Jaehyun pressed a soft kiss out of adoration on her forehead before their hands separated.

Jaehyun distanced himself as he watched the female servants aid his wife as they helped her to walk. But before she could leave the room she turned the head back one last time and glanced at the emperor who gave her a small soft smile in return. His affectionate gaze told her all she needed to know.

'Do not worry, I am here! Everything is going to be alright!'

She knew what he was thinking and felt a tremendous amount of comfort from his message.

With a heavy heart, Ri turned away and with struggle, she managed to leave the emperor's bedroom chamber.

Once she was out of sight, Jaehyun looked at his hand and he could still feel her soft skin on his. He felt his heartache the moment they parted ways.

Little did he know that his sorrow has just begun.

A thick trail of sweat dripped down Ri's exhausted face. Crimson tinted her once white eyes as a river of nonstop tears flowed heavily caused by the overbearing pain.

Her loud scream echoed through the castle walls as more blood gushed out of her womanhood staining the already red sheet in the process.

"Miss Jisoo, it has already been nine hours since lady Ri's has been in labor, and the progress we made is minor. If this keeps up then the child will be in danger." Told the midwife while Jisoo wiped the sweat of Ri's face.

"Please push harder my lady!" Said Jisoo has worry consumed her thoughts.

"I-I-ahhh it hurts ahhhh!" Screamed Ri as she pushed harder with all her might.
