Andrea's pov:
That night was darker than any night I had experienced before.
The wind was howling and the rain was pouring nonstop.
Thunder could be heard at a distance and lightning lit up the sky every ten minutes.
The kids were curled under the blankets in their beds and the adults ran to get into their homes and secure all of their belongings along as fast as they could.
The kids were afraid of the thunder and the lightning.
The adults were afraid of something else.
Something that had threatened all our lives in that small village.
Something I could have never imagined even in my wildest dreams.
I could hear my mom shouting at me to gather the necessities and pack them into a bag.
I can still remember the feeling of fear and confusion while I hurried to do what she said.
I had barely managed to pack some clothes and food into my small backpack when she pulled me by my arm and we ran out of our home.
The villagers were rushing to get onto the carriages and get out of the village.
We also jumped onto one of the carriages along with the two backpacks we had packed.
I looked behind us to the village.
There were creatures which I had never seen before running around destroying houses and dragging the people around.
I don't know what they are.
Their upper bodies were human but their lower bodies were of that of horses. They also had horns on their heads and their eyes were crimson red.
The few elderly people who couldn't make it onto the carriages were being killed and dragged around like rags.
Tears were streaming down my face.
My 8-year-old mind wasn't able to fathom what was going on.
Why those creatures were killing the villagers.
I felt utter dread crawl up inside me when one of the creatures met eyes with me.
It felt as if my blood had frozen.
Their eyes were filled with hatred and malicious intent.
I don't know why they didn't try to attack us.
They were going around us as if they couldn't see us.
The carriage suddenly started moving.
I remember clinging onto mom tightly because of how fast the carriage was going.
It felt as if I was being pushed against the seat.
Everything was going by so fast. It was all blurry.
I couldn't make out anything.
I could only cry at the thought of all the people who I had watched get killed.
The people I had held dear.
My friends. My family.
