"Dearest—— I am sorry not to have written. Life is tough, and it's hard to talk while one is gritting one's teeth..."

Gwendolyn Darrington would slaughter anyone who referred to her as that, her name was Wendy. Well... now she's called Gwen, the Kooks thought her previous nickname was too... Pogue (fitting considering she's a Pogue but whatever.) Gwen used to chill with the Pogues but as soon as they found out the she was determined to make their childhood dream of becoming a Kook a reality, they ditched her.

Sarah Cameron adopted Gwen as some sort of charity project, she'd give the girl presents and money and somewhere to stay when her mom was at night shifts— although Patricia Darrington hadn't worked night shifts in years. But, despite this, Gwen never really enjoyed it; she always saw the blonde troublemaker that just popped up round every corner, his drug hazed eyes always watching as she'd disappear behind Rafe's best friends and crawl back to the slums of the Cut late at night, tiptoeing into her house with her mother passed out on the couch in a drunken stupor.

When John B's father went missing, something in Outer Banks shifted, a metaphorical Pandora's box of shit opened and, instead of spending her time on My Druthers with the Cameron's, Wendy finds herself back with her childhood best friends and Sarah, hunting for treasure, running from smugglers and unwillingly discovering that her own father wasn't as far away as everyone (her drunken mother) had said.

Pope Heyward had once mentioned that Wendy and JJ were soulmates, that their hearts probably fit together like intricate puzzle pieces, and that they'd find pure happiness in each other's arms. After they fell out, she was rarely ever spoken of until shit hit the fan hard and the Pogue princess came back to reclaim her throne— and all those that came with it— and the Pogues realised one essential thing.... they really ought to listen to Pope a hell of a lot more.
