I'm gonna start of gentle. No big fat doses of angst just yet.

Yet.

Also this is an older AU (it's summer, Kuroo is in his third year of college and Kenma is in his second)

Kuroo sighed softly as he woke up. Kenma was probably already at the airport, on his way to Tokyo for his gaming tournament.

But when he sat up and looked around, Kenma's suitcase was still there. Did the idiot forget about his luggage? No, he wouldn't...

It was getting a little suspicious. The bathroom light was off, and Kenma tended to leave the light on just in case he got scared in the dark.

Alright, this is getting suspicious, Kuroo thought to himself. He yawned, making his way down the stairs, and to his surprise, saw Kenma in the kitchen, cooking silently.

"Kenma?!" he asked in surprise. Kenma looked up, and his expression was blank. "Oh, you're awake." "S-shouldn't you be at your tournament?"

Now Kuroo was getting worried. Kenma looked away, not quite at the ground, but not at Kuroo either. "They...they canceled on me..." he mumbled quietly, the last few words fading away.

"They what? Why?!" Kenma just shrugged. "Some famous dude didn't get in because he didn't have the skill, I guess he paid them a lot of money and they took the offer, and took out a contestant. Just happened to be me. No big deal."

"Kenma, it is a big deal. You've waited for months for this tournament! You can't possibly be giving up that easily."

"Listen Kuroo, yeah I was excited, but I didn't really expect to win anyway. Saves me the embarrassment." Kuroo knew that wasn't how he felt, he was just trying to hide his feelings from him.

"Kenma..." Kuroo wrapped his arms around Kenma, reaching around his chest to turn off the stove.

Gently Kuroo led Kenma back to their bedroom, an arm wrapped gently around his slender waist. "Kuroo, what are you doing?"

"I can tell you're sad about this Kenma, and you know I can't stand you lying to me or feeling bad about something that wasn't your fault."

"I'm not—" Kenma tried to protest, but Kuroo silenced him with a gentle kiss. "Not right now. Right now, we're gonna make you feel better," Kuroo told him authoritatively.

"What do you want to do?" Kenma just shrugged, looking at the ground. "You want me to order you some apple pie? And maybe some apple juice?" Kenma shrugged.

"Sure. I don't really care." "Kenma..." Kuroo began. He sighed as he reached for his phone to call and order.

After they ate, Kenma was on his phone, his expression blank. It hurt Kuroo to see Kenma like this. Even if he was cold or flicking Kuroo off, he at least showed some emotion.

"Kenma, do you want to go play some video games? I know you're feeling sad, so if you don't, I completely understand—"

But to his surprise, Kenma was already standing up. Kuroo followed him as he set up the game. They were playing, and were tied, which didn't happen very often, Kenma was so good.

But Kuroo knew that he wasn't feeling it today, that was the only reason why he wasn't performing as well as he usually did.

They were in the middle of their 5th game, the tie-breaker, when it stopped. "Does this happen..a lot...?" Kuroo asked Kenma, who shook his head.

"We interrupt your gameplay for a very important message," a TV announcer said. "The winner of the 2021 Tokyo Video Game Tournament is Ricky James!" (Idk i made that up don't come at me)
