He Shut It Off

"Violet where are you?!" I groan and roll over huffing at my brother who had been blowing up my phone. "What?" I snap rubbing my eyes as I sat up and stretched. "Violet-"

"I am going to kill you! It's not even morning yet." I groan, "technically-"

"You keep that technically to yourself before I feed you, your thumbs." It was safe to say I wasn't a morning person. "Where are you?"

"You are not my mother Stefan and I do not need to tell you my whereabouts 24/7. I'm over a hundred years old, I'm not two." I seethe down the phone, "Caroline is missing." He says.

"Ok and?" How did this affect me, "what do you mean and?" He asks in confusion, "I mean and so what? The girls a vampire I'm not too worried for her, she's a big girl I'm sure no one threw her in the back of a van."

"Well she's not really missing, but-"

"Why are you calling me then?" I look over at Kai who's face was still smushed up against the pillow as he slept like the dead, ugh I was so jealous of him right now. "She turned her humanity off." I roll my eyes, "ok if you suffocated me like this I'd run away too and so what if she turned it off, you've flipped your switch plenty of times, let the girl live, I'm going now bye!" I say promptly hanging up, this wasn't even a me problem so I was going to sleep until I was rested and if I felt like helping when I woke up then I would.

"What was all that about?" Kai mumbles as I lay back down beside him, "I don't know vampire drama? I don't care now shush we're sleeping." I tell him as I cuddle up closer to him, smiling at his warmth as he wraps an arm around me.

"So this Caroline issue, what's going on?" I ask Stefan once I found him, jeez he seemed very stressed. "She flipped her switch and just took off, her house is completely empty." My eyebrows furrow, "Ok first of all breathe Stefan and what do you mean her house is empty? Where is Liz? And why did Caroline even flip her switch?" I ask confused on what lead to this chain of events.

Now it's his turn to furrow his brows, "What?" I ask knowing that face of his all too well, "you don't know?" Very descriptive, "God Stef could you get any vaguer?" He looks very uncomfortable making a pit bloom in my stomach he was gonna say something bad. "Uh well Liz, she uh she passed two days ago." what? He has to be mistaken.

"What? But I was just with her two days ago and she was fine." He just looks at me pityingly. "She was fine, we were making plans for our regular watch sessions. What happened to her? Did Damon-" Stefan shakes his head and grabs me by the arms, "Damon didn't do anything, he cared for Liz too, it just happened."

"But she was fine." I repeat still in shock over the news as my eyes sting, "I know." He murmurs hugging me tightly. "Ok so we know why Caroline flipped, but is it really so bad? She's hurting and she doesn't have to." I say not thinking this was the worst thing to ever happen.

"But it's Caroline."

"So? She turned her humanity off boo hoo, she'll flip it back eventually." I shrug still not seeing how this was end of the world kinda stuff, "we kissed." My eyebrows raise, "ooh go Stef. Wait was this before or after she flipped the switch?"

He winces, "before and then I rejected her which I think helped with the decision making process."

"Oh boo Stefan what did you do that for?" I ask confused as to why he would do that when he did like her. "Damon said-"

"Oh my god Stefan why did you listen to Damon? We both know he is not helpful in situations like these, you should've asked me because I'm way better at things like this."
