Later that night, as everyone had tucked themselves under the warm comfort of their duvets, Gun's bed's left untouched as the owner still hang by the pool. It was a rather chilly night. The atmosphere was serene safe for occasional splashes of water, as he sat unmoving facing the outside wall.
"Taking selfies at this time of night?" A voice broke the silence, in replace of soft approaching footsteps.
"Fuck off." Gun chuckled softly, already recognized the voice before even turning around.
Tay sat beside him and dipped his feet in cold water. "Off, huh?"
"Yeah, off the wherever it is you're from!" Gun said, creating little splashes with his hand while being careful not to make his new companion wet. He looked like he's showered and all ready to sleep.
Well ... it's an hour past midnight.
"I mean ... Off, huh?"
"Damn." Gun swore half-heartedly. "He told you?"
"No, it's New."
Gun calmly nodded. "Of course."
"So much has changed within a day, huh?"
"Indeed."
"I'm sorry I missed out."
"P'Tay, it's really not your fault."
"Nong Gun, why—"
"Can we not do this, P'Tay, right now?" Gun sighed, taking his time to look up and meet Tay's gaze. "I'm still wrapping my head around it. Even now."
Tay looked reluctant, but eventually gave in. "Can I hug you, at least?"
Gun sighed fondly. "P'Tay, you don't even need to ask."
Tay's arms engulfed him in an instant, the warmth of his body was a calming comfort. If Gun was to pick a straight guy to fall for, Tay Tawan would be his obvious first choice. He's gentle beyond repair. Too gentle, even, for his own good. Gun could only wish the girl of his dream really deserved him. But hey, who was he to talk?
"I might be his friend but I won't stand still if he hurts you, Nong Gun." Tay whispered from above him, quiet voice carrying a strong determination.
After the whole fiasco, Gun thought he had no more tears left, but he cried anyway.
"Hey, don't cry. It doesn't suit you." Tay smiled, and for a second Gun wondered what would've happened if he were paired up with Tay instead. "Smile, na?"
For a second, Gun imagined what it felt like to love Tay instead. But it did last only for a second, though, before Tay shifted from their position and his hand accidentally bashed a stuffed giraffe behind Gun straight to the pool.
"Aaa ...! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I will—is that Hin's??"
