Mikasa's P.O.V.

Today was the day;

We were going outside of the wall.

I wasn't really anxious or scared to begin the journey, I know I can kill Titans, but I was afraid that something would happen to Eren, or even Levi. I could not even imagine losing one of them. I sighed and started checking my 3D maneuvering device to make sure I wouldn't die from faulty gear.

"Are you ready?" Asked an excited voice. Eren. "I guess. You need to stay in your squad, Eren. I don't want you getting hurt." I said, turning toward him.
"Mikasa, you're not my mother! I'm older than you! Stop treating me like a kid brother!" He retorted in frustration. I flinched a bit at his words, even though he always says that. I sighed and turned away. I guess he understood that I wanted to be alone now, for he slowly retreated.

"Ackerman, are you ready? We're leaving soon." Levi's voice came from behind me. I shivered when his fingers skimmed my arm softly. "Yes. I just need to fix this one loose bolt and I'll be out." I replied, turning to face the quite short man. He nodded, his hair bobbing with the action. I covered my mouth quickly to hide a chuckle.

"Something wrong, Ackerman?" He asked, smirking a bit. "No, not at all." I said, letting my hand fall. Corporal Levi's face became suddenly serious. "Listen, Mikasa... Please... Survive this expedition. I don't want to lose you." Levi murmured, taking my hand and pulling me closer to him. My breathing stopped as he pulled me into an embrace which I was definitely not prepared for.

My face was turning red, I could feel it, but I oddly found comfort with this action. I pulled him closer and he placed his chin on my shoulder. "Damn. I'm to short for this." He complained, I could feel him smiling into my shoulder. His heartbeat quickened its pace with mine, I couldn't imagine letting go.

"We should get going," Levi said, breaking our hug, "we don't want to be left behind." He finished. I nodded and put my gear on.

We all met outside in the courtyard to sort into our squads and get our horses ready. "Hey, Mikasa! Looks like we're all in different squads." Armin stated as he walked up to me, a reluctant Eren following close behind. "Hmm. I guess that's to bad, we should kill Titans together." I replied, being careful not to make Eren angry again. Apparently he noticed my cautiousness; he looked at me apologetically. "Look, Mikasa about earlier.." Eren started. "It's fine." I interrupted quietly, stiffening my shoulders. He bowed his head and shuffled away with Armin at his side.

What was wrong with me? I'll have no friends left if I chase away my friends like that... Before I could call after him and apologize, Erwin's loud voice carried through the courtyard; "Everyone to your squad! We'll be leaving shortly." And with that, everyone scrambled across the hard stone to get with their groups, excitement thickening the air.

"Mikasa! Over here!" Sasha squealed from across the yard. Oh great. I thought, Sasha, Connie and Ymir. This should be great. I sighed and slowly made my way towards my small group.

I wonder how many will make it back alive.
