Aurora Black thought that she had let go of Marlene Mckinnon. It wasn't really her choice either. She had to because of some old betrothal. She convinced herself that she couldn't be with Marlene. That all the months they spent together was simply just a mistake. She couldn't be with a girl. Those were the words etched into her mind by her mother.
But her heart had a mind of its own. And that's exactly why she had smelled Marlene in the Amortentia. And if she was being honest, it absolutely terrified her.
There was a part of her that tried to make herself hate Marlene. Although she knew that she could never hate her, letting go of someone you hate was easier than letting go of someone you love. Right?
And then there was another part of her that wanted to say fuck it all and leave this life behind. It would just be the two of them. Not Aurora Black and Marlene Mckinnon. Not a pureblood and a halfblood. Simply Aurora and Marlene.
But not everyone gets what they wish for now do they?
Which is exactly why Aurora was currently counting down the minutes until her potions class ended. And today, it felt as if time was passing very slowly.
"So just read about those two potions. And remember, the end of the year exams are coming up so don't forget to study. Now off you go!" She snapped back into reality upon hearing Professor Slughorn's voice.
Aurora quickly grabbed her stuff and tried to leave as fast as she could. I need some fresh air, she thought to herself.
She pushed her way through all of the students and finally managed to get out of the classroom. She had a free period and decided to do some of her homework in the library.
But, luck wasn't on her side this time. The library was packed with students, and there was only one seat open. Next to Regulus. To say that the two weren't on the best of terms was an understatement.
"Ugh here goes nothing." She groaned, as she made her way towards her brother.
"Can I sit here?" Regulus was reading a book, but glanced up when he saw her.
"Yeah, sure." He simply replied.
The two Blacks worked in silence for a solid ten minutes. That is, until, Regulus spoke up.
"We haven't talked in a while."
"Yeah, well I guess that's what happens when you ignore me." She muttered under her breath.
"Look, you could've told me. I'm your brother for Merlins sake!" He spoke a little louder, earning a glare from some students around them. "And what you did wasn't right. You know how mother and father feel about people like her."
"It wasn't right? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?! You think I can just control my feelings for someone? It's easy for you to say all this stuff. You can just tell mother and father that you've been shagging my best friend for the past year and I'm pretty sure they'll start planning your wedding!" She snapped.
"That's not what I meant-"
"What did you mean, Reg? Please do enlighten me." She scoffed, slamming her book shut.
"She's a half-blood! And not to mention she's- she's a-"
"She's a what?" Aurora cut him off.
"A- A girl!" He managed to say.
"See this, this is exactly why I couldn't just go around and tell anyone. But hey, you all got what you wanted didn't you? Marlene's no longer in my life and I'm about to be married off to a pureblood like you all wanted." She sighed. "So, I hope you're all happy."
