"Marvin! Your letter is here!" Marvin Gardens was in his last year of university studying biology, his uni was just down the road so he still lived with his parents and he was longing to move out. He was doing well in school and had a lovely girlfriend as well as good friends. He knew his mother had his soulmate letter but he couldn't care less. It was his first October being 21 but he had to graduate first.
"Hey, Marvin. I have your soulmate letter, isnt it exciting?"
"I guess?"
"Come on Marvin"
"Sorry Mum, yeah it is" Marvin's father was standing in the doorway
"It better be a female, you know the rules" Marvin rolled his eyes but he knew his father wasnt making empty threats. Anything other than a female willing to be your slave and your out the house. To be honest though, Marvin never felt any attraction to females or males, he was only dating Trina because he didnt want to turn her down as she seemed so sweet and she respected his boundaries. He slowly ran his finger underneath the seal and opened the envelope, in big golden letters was written 'SEEKER' and below an address. He had to find whomever the hell she was. He turned to his Mum who was looking at him excitedly but his dad was scowling
"Well go"
"I'm sorry, what did you say Dad?"
"Get out, find her and don't return until you do"
"But my work Dad, I have a project due tomorrow"
"You should of known this was coming, go" he grabbed Marvin by the shoulders and led him down the stairs and pushed outside the front door and shut it. Marvin was standing underneath the porch still grabbing his letter. He sighed and opened the door to grab some stuff like his phone, coat and charger. His dad emerged from the kitchen with some stuff and when seeing Marvin grabbed his coat shoved them into him and pushed him onto his ass on the cold ground.
"It she is a he, dont come back" and with that his dad slammed the door. Marvin looked through the stuff his father had given him, phone, charger, his wallet with his card and $56 in, a small notebook full of his school notes and his coat. He put on the coat and shoved everything but his phone in the large pockets and had a look at the address on the letter. Was in New York, maybe even on the university campus so he decided to walk up to the university, a good 20 miles away.

Whizzer Brown was a first year studying literature at university in New York, far from his home in Nebraska and from his homophobic father. His mother died a year ago but now he was 18 he was determined to dedicate everything to her. The alarm ringing around his bungalow signaled that it was 1pm and he should probably get up and get some work done so he had very little to do over the weekend. He rolled of his matress put on the nearest pair of boxers and a hoodie and slid down the ladder connecting his attic bedroom with the rest of the bungalow. His bare feet quietly pattered along the floor as he made his way to his kettle and box of tea.
"Alexa play Lemon Tree" Whizzer always hated silence and as the song started filling the room with the sound of the kettle, he made his way over to the door to pick up his post. Only one letter that he didnt recognise, he ripped open the letter to see in big golden letters 'NOT THE SEEKER'. Shit, he already had his soulmate letter? His soulmate must be 21, three years older than him. In smaller writing below was 'Marvin Gardens'. No clue who that was but Whizzer didnt believe in the "prophecy" or soulmate in general. He had never formed any good relationships with anyone and he saw boyfriends as a waste of time and space. He shrugged it off and left the letter on his counter and poured the water into his mug and picked up a bowl of dry cereal and made his way to his 'study'. It was a small room designed to be a bedroom but because he was sleeping in the small attic he had put in a desk and chair put he still had lots of space in the box room which he planned to fill with books. He opened his laptop, grabbed An Inspector Calls and started to work.
