CHAPTER 5
Tori was pretty sure she got away with taking her nephew to the cemetery. She dodged a bullet this time but she was certain that she wasn't completely in the clear just yet. She understood that the only reason that Amen didn't completely go mental on her was purely because of his brother and because of Joseph.
It took a lot to get Tori to stop carrying on when Amen pulled the gun on her. She actually thought he would pull the trigger. He was so angry... His already dark eyes seemed to become darker by the minute.
In truth, Tori didn't know what she was doing. She was afraid, she was working on pure instinct. She just wanted to help Joseph. She needed to get her nephew out of this place.
Her sister must have known something that she didn't. Joseph wasn't safe. Tori was putting her money on Amen being the reason. She must have wanted her son out of her because of Amen, because of how dangerous he was.
Yes he worked legitimately, he worked hard and had all the right papers to prove it. His money was all accounted for. Nothing illegal there... But how did he rise to such success?
Anybody who have ever heard of the Ramsgate's knew that they were not your normal family. They were vicious and dangerous. They were most definitely one of the most feared names in town that was for sure.
Tori didn't want to be here, she didn't like the fact that she was forced to be at the mansion. But it meant being with Joseph so she sucked it up and went along with it. She was going to lay low for a while, just until she managed to get Joseph away from here... It was bound to happen sooner or later. She would get legal rights to her nephew and take him far away from here. She had no choice, his well-being was all that mattered to her.
For the next few weeks, Tori did her best to stay out of the way. She didn't want to get in Amen's way. He was one scary man and she didn't want him to have another reason to come close to her. It was too... Too intimate the way he thought it was okay to be so close to her.
She wasn't liking that look in his eyes. It wasn't something she was used to... That look, it was dark and dangerous. His eyes went so dark when he stood close to her...
She knew he didn't find her attractive, not with somebody like Gwyneth around, Gwyneth who was stunning. Who dressed like a supermodel... She was smart too. She had it all.
Tori was a little on the plain side. Big eyes, a little too big for her face, the colour was weird. She was called weird all her life. Her hair was on the wilder side. Not as tame and as perfect as Gwyneth's perfectly fixed hair.
Tori was just happy to have her hair off her face. She didn't care too much on straightening it, not unless she had an event. She still kept it as neat as she could. It would curl up on the ends and look decent enough most days.
Brushing it was the most trouble she would go to. If she had some time on her hands. She would occasionally tie it up in a neat ponytail... If she was feeling a little adventurous that was.
Tori never knew how to dress like the times called for. She was a little old fashioned. Simple jeans, simple top and more likely than not, a little cardigan to go over it, just so she didn't show too much shoulder. She was a little modest. It was just something she couldn't shake off.
Her father was very conservative, he wanted his daughters to respect themselves... He thought by keeping them in a bubble he would be better for it. Not in Evelyn's case... Evelyn met Felix, fell in love, fell pregnant and left...
Tori never had the heart to do that to her father. She didn't want him to be broken. Seeing him suffer when Evelyn did the runner killed her. Tori chose to look after her old man instead of being a young adult living her life. She would give anything to have him back in her life... Anything. Family meant the world to Tori.
