When the Asgardians arrived on Jotunheim during the war, Laufey's son Loptr was born. Sadly, his wife died giving birth to him. Loptr was small for a Frost Giant's child, but Laufey still loved him. Wanting to protect Loptr, he hid him in the temple.

Unfortunately for Laufey, Odin stormed the temple. Laufey fought back, but he lost the battle and had received a nearly fatal wound by the entrance of the room of the Casket of Ancient Winters(that's where Loptr was hidden). Odin left him to die and entered the room. One of Odin's warriors carefully picked up the Casket, but the cries of a baby echoed through the room.

Laufey heard Loptr's cries and fear struck into his heart. He'd rather die than let Odin harm his son. Laufey started to struggle to get to the room. Inside the room, Odin had just picked up Loptr. He knew the child was Laufey's.

Distain filled Odin as he stared at the child in his arms. He was tempted to just kill the child or just leave the child to die, but his men were watching. It was one thing to kill enemies but killing children was a different story. Odin sighed and said, "The child must've been abandoned."

"What would we do with the baby, your majesty?" one of his men asked. "Let's return home," Odin replied. They sommoned the Bifrost and returned home, leaving Laufey believing that Odin had murdered his child.

Up in Asgard, Odin brought Loptr to the palace. Frigga was playing with Thor, who was toddler, in the throne room. Frigga smiled and exclaimed, "Odin, you're okay!"

Then she saw the jotun baby in his arms. "Is that...?"

"Laufey's son. Heimdal told me that his name is Loptr."

"Lopi?" Thor asked, walking over his parents. He jumped, trying to get a better look at the baby. Then Loptr erupted with a cry. Frigga took him out of her husband's arms and cradled the baby. She gently shushed him and slowly his skin turned white and his blood red eyes turned green. Loptr stopped crying and stared at Frigga.

Loptr touched her hand with his tiny hand. She smiled at him. "You must be hungry. I'll get a wet nurse to feed you."

"Is that really necessary?" Odin huffed. "Yes. He's clearly hungry and misses his parents. Why did you bring him here?"

"I didn't know what to do with him."

Frigga understood what he meant and glared at him, telling him she disapproved of the fact he considered hurting a child. "Mommy? Can I see Lopi?" Thor asked. "Of course." She kneeled down, allowing Thor a better look.

Odin grunted in disapproval, earning a warning glare from his wife. "Lopi is new brother!" Thor announced. Frigga chuckled. She knew Odin wouldn't allow him to keep his birth name, and Thor's mispronouncement gave her an idea. "Yes, Thor. Loki is your new brother."
